Bachar Houli - بشار حولي,

True but Houli runs at about 80% uncontested possessions which is amongst the highest of any afl player. He needs win at least 10% more contested football to be considered a good outside player. That's less subjective.

I actually feel sorry for Houli. I see him trying to play his role and making things happen but as an outside player he's not being provided the options of a dynamic and functioning spread. Always under pressure/perceived pressure his kicking is suffering and he's looking very average. When we were up and running last year Houli and even Grigg were important cogs. We're broken.

He's doing what he can.

He is one player who seems to have the discipline to follow instructions. He doesn't go back into his shell. He keeps on trying to do the right thing when we are going badly.

Downside - yep, he doesn't have the reliability that would make him a really good player - those basic errors seem to creep in and undo some of his good work.

Great 100th game for Bachar. Should keep his critics at bay for his perceived 'lack of hardness'. Ventured into dangerous territory a few times backing into both Mumford and Patton on separate occasions.

Benefits when Lids and Ellis all play wide, particularly sweeping the back line. Everyone talks about how the ball moved better last year but one of the keys to that was having 3 elite run & carry ball users sweeping from the half back line through the square. Hopefully the inside mid experiement for Lids and Ellis is a thing of the past and we can get back to attacking from the back via these 3 guys.

Back to the Bachar I enjoy watching.
Wasn't much pressure or opposition on the entire team yesterday so it gave all the senior regulars the opportunity to run themselves into some kind of form n Bachar certainly did that. Ran n ran n ran some more, busted the proverbial running into space, linking up n overlapping through the lines.
Lightweight sparra, so I don't really expect major grunt work n physical demolition from him but while his role is more to get to the feet for spillage he still backs into the hole against the big bastards when he has to.

I posted 2 weeks ago that Houli has had groin issues this season which has been restricting him. He still has although they are being managed.

Seemed to be moving more freely yesterday.
