Australia Day 26 January

Another thing lets say all the now Australian passport holders who settled here in the last ten years do they have to be apologetic to our brudders & sisters in your way of thinking.
"brudders".........you really do hate our First Nation people don't you.

Totally not the point and therefore completely irrelevant. Potato head wasn't " inciting " violence as you're insinuating, he was simply asking people to abstain from conducting business with Woolworths and to choose an alternative option.

But that is the point, he should be held to the same ridiculous and idiotic standards he holds others to. Otherwise he is simply a hypocrite . . . but we already knew that.

The relevant point is that because of the dispossession of the original inhabitants of this land you are now enjoying a very peaceful , financial, healthy life
Fixed that for you.

Our national day commemorates the dispossession of the original inhabitants, it is a terrible day to have a national day. Plus, this date has only a very recent history. When it was whichever day meant we got a long weekend at least it reflected the Australian attitude of valuing a long weekend over confected patriotism.

The relevant point is that because of the deeds of the early settlers you are now enjoying a very peaceful , financial, healthy life & all you do is put poo poo on them. Another thing lets say all the now Australian passport holders who settled here in the last ten years do they have to be apologetic to our brudders & sisters in your way of thinking. As for celebrating Australia on Australia Day it is to thank present day Australians with a day off from their daily oil & welcome new chums to hold a Australian passport with some pomp & ceremony.

If you extend that out to 15 years I'm also one of those "new passport holders" (though I do need to remember to actually push through my citizenship this year). My personal view is, there is a history to Australia. I want to learn about the history of the place that I now call home and the place that I love as my home, just as I researched the history of my homeland of the UK. Without reviewing history you will continue to make similar mistakes, its all part of growing as a nation.

We are Australians, our indigenous brothers and sisters (I'll use the non agro term) are also Australians, and ultimately my view is, there SHOULD be a day to celebrate Australian culutre, but it should also be a day that EVERY AUSTRALIAN can celebrate said culture. The fact that part of our community cannot celebrate Australia day due to the history that we should be learning from, is a problem in itself and enough reason to change the date to one that we all as Australians can celebrate the country and the culture that we love and enjoy.

" The fact that a part (The Few) cannot celebrate etc etc " are only a few who are against it. If it was a majority yes but the majority at the moment do not want a change. We have councils now boycotting Australia Day . Since when have they been elected to impose their personal belief on a subject which is irrelevant to Council duties.

How do you know a majority are against changing the date?

He's a racist *smile*. Nothing less. I wonder why people engage with him. There is no logic. There is no thinking. There is just ignorance and hate.

Again, you can have your opinion about the success of British culture. I wont fight you on that.

I have my own opinions, but fine.

But it's good you finally agree that the 26th represents the date of an invasion. No one is saying don't have a day to recognise our country, or be thankful for our way of life. No one is asking passport holders for an apology.

You don't need to make things up.

I'm glad you now understand why the celebrating the 26th is so difficult.

Jazzy popped up with his juvenile taunt. Water off a ducks back.

There was no invasion. Full stop. Invasion is dream time for the wokers who just like to be accepted by the intelligentsia. A minority in this country who live in the burbs where councils put the poo poo on Australia Day. They call themselves Australian but deep down any thing of National pride they jump on the band wagon.

Yes vote won hands down. True blues just luv their Oz day holiday & they are the majority in this country.

You do realise that that vote was not a vote on whether Australians think Australia Day should remain as the 26th right!! I assumed this was where you were going.

This discussion isn't around whether you are proud to be in Australia or proud of Australia. Its reflecting on history.

I'm proud to live in Australia, and proud to call this home, but it doesn't mean that everything our ancestors have done in history is right. Much like the same as a Brit. I'm proud to be British but that doesn't mean I'm proud of everything the Brits have done in the past. Am I proud that 15 year old conscripts were murdered in the trenches in world war 1 because they were scared of "going over the top". Nope. Am I proud that we destroyed Dresden in WW2 purely because it would burn faster than other German cities that had more military focus - Nope.

Get over yourself that you can only be proud of Australia in the warped way that you see things.

It is really depressing that after all of your posting here, you still don't have any idea what the referendum was about.

So you disagree with Cook when he said it was an invasion?

The British settled Australia & the cry now is that we be apologetic to the settled for what our British forefathers supposedly committed. Now if you are not of British descent do you have to be apologetic or is just the people of British descent ?.

The Cronulla riots on December 11, 2005 did a lot to destroy Australia's love of it's flag & further too celebrations of Australia Day.
That was the beginning of the end. An absolute disgrace to this country seeing those bogans from the Shire draped in the Union Jack beating down on migrants.
That eroded the love of the flag & everything this country prides itself on.
Racism at it's worst.

I always thought there was a day that every Australian celebrated. Its the day we retain the ashes.
Admittedly its not an annual day but its regular like clockwork, its in the fabric of our country and our history, its a highlight for everyone.
It brings Australia together so whats not to love?

Yep. Too many people equate loving your country with denying the bad parts of its history.
If you want to list the sins of the British it will be a long list but what we see is those wanting to hold onto the empire are not doing the country any favours.
MAGA is holding on to some fantasy about the greatness of the US.
Nationalism with blind acceptance is actually destructive, history teaches us that.
