Andrew 'Mini' McQualter

OMG haven’t we got Rudd as US ambassador how bad is that
I see that by adding my comments at post 1279 above, about a politicised public service, as you have, you are seeking to suggest that I must be opposed to the Rudd appointment also.

To be clear nothing could be further from the truth. National leaders usually have a pretty fair experience of international affairs and are well placed to take on a diplomatic post.

Rudd not my cup of tea, but I don't see how his experience as a PM does other than help prepare him for such a role.

Didn't he get stabbed in the back by his own mob, who then turned around n stabbed his replacement in the back n reinstated him just in time to get rolled by Heeeyyyy ABBOTT?
Just another *smile* kicker pollie who got a premium brown nose job.

All true but that has nothing to do with whether former PM’s might reasonably be recruited to take up diplomatic posts.

LYON SAYS “SHIP HAS SAILED” TO BRING MCQUALTER TO ST KILDA

SEN BY LACHLAN GELEIT

St Kilda coach Ross Lyon admits the ship has probably sailed for Andrew McQualter to join the club’s coaching ranks.
McQualter, who coached Richmond on an interim basis in 2023 after Damien Hardwick quit, narrowly missed out on landing the top job at Tigerland with Adem Yze winning the role last week.

Lyon attempted to lure McQualter to the Saints upon his return to Moorabbin last off-season, but he doesn’t expect to be able to do the same this time around due to soft cap restraints.
While he doesn’t think McQualter will land at Moorabbin, he does expect the highly-rated assistant to have plenty of options around the league.

“Probably that ship has sailed, to be honest,” Lyon told SEN Sportsday.
“The soft cap is really limiting. We've got great people there (already).
“I ran him, his manager Paul Connors at the VFL grand final and under-18 (Coates Talent League) Grand Final and he'll have plenty of options.
“He'll be well taken care of.”

While Lyon thinks McQualter is probably licking his wounds after coming so close to landing the full-time gig at Richmond, he believes he should see it as the beginning, not the end - particularly as the likes of Yze and Adam Kingsley landed jobs after coming close previously.

“He's certainly got nothing to be embarrassed about,” Lyon said.
“He's probably licking his wounds a little bit, but that's the model of just asking for the feedback, ‘Where can I improve?’.
“Ultimately, Yze has gone for a couple and missed, much like Kingsley.
“So he should see it as a beginning, not an end.”

There is no "and", nor is there a need for one.
presuming Mini received more dollars for this year when he took over from Dimma. and therefore our soft-cap was all out of whack with Dimma not going the distance with his contract/ Mini taking more $, etc. to run the show after round 10? does anyone know if Mini was contracted as an assistant through to the end of 2024 when he signed his last assistant deal?

7 news reporting that Mini is likely to join Dimma at the Gold Coast.

I think this is a mistake if he wants to be a senior coach one day.

Surely he would be better off being an assistant to someone else and experience another way of doing things.

Having his lips sewn to Dimma’s arsenal for another few years is wasting his time. I can see why Dimma would want him and knowing it’s not going to help Mini get a senior gig and increases the chances of him being with Dimma for another decade.

Maybe no one else wants Mini Dimma it’s either join up with Dimma or dole queue

He's on here you know,SERIOUSLY .
Imagine having a job where you could have an influence on setting an agenda to right the woes of a very dysfunctional and corrupt AFL.
You could write about myriad issues that plague modern football that any average fan can see and verify. Starting at the “fix”ture, the ARC, and moving along, hitting each one with passion and intensity.
Or, you could be John Ralph, or Barratt, or any one of the other junk jockeys serving out brain porridge to the masses. I mean who cares what you can regurgitate from the AFL teat. Spew is spew, we are drowning in spew.

If you are on here Mr Ralph, get good! Wake up and do something better. Become a real journalist, if such a thing still exists.

Didn't Dimma say he was happy with the coaching set up already at the Suns? Since then he's added Grigg and possibly Mini? Not a great vote of confidence in the existing team.

Even if Dimma's salary was largely out of the soft cap, you'd think the salary that is would be higher than Dew's and Mini won't come cheap as an assistant. Someone at Princes Park has definitely sent up some of their paper bag supplies.
