Yeah, even with the assassination of their own President isn't convincing enough for them. This country is as realistic as its action movies.

Still, if I lived there and owned a gun for protection, I imagine I'd be reluctant to give it up. It'd be open slather for criminals until they could get a majority of weapons out of circulation. It'd be a very painful process.

True, but why don't they just try it. It sounds like 2 people too scared to do a bungy jump "You go first....no, you go first....no, you go first....."

I suppose amnesty doesn't always work perfectly as there will always be a black market around somewhere.

Re: America, will they ever learn?

The frustrating thing is that this 20 year old murderer used guns that his mother bought legally and had registered through proper means.
Even if they change the gun laws (which I think they should) it may not have prevented this anyway.

Sick society.

Edit: Just realised that they were semi-automatic. Banning those weapons would be a good place for the Yanks to start.

Re: America, will they ever learn?

the gun lobby group will be arguing that the kids could have prevented this if they followed their second amendment rights and were armed

RIP children

let's see how big your balls are obama

The "gun for protection" argument is a crock of *smile*. You do not need a fully automatic military rifle for protection! I am not sure what the stats are but I would assume very few gun crimes are prevented by potential victims having guns for protection.

Whoever runs the NRA facebook acccount must have had a rare moment of lucidity, leading them to delete this image that they shared today:

Gun Lobby as out of touch with reality as the intelligent design mob.

This is the perfect opportunity for Obama to leave a real legacy. He's in his 2nd term, can't get a 3rd, what's he got to lose? What is more important than preventing children being slaughtered? The NRA are powerful. So what! Take those rednecks on. Don't just offer your condolences, do something about it....this craziness has got to stop! Banning automatic and semi-automatic weapons would be a start. Change the definition of "arms" to be weapons that were available at the time the constitution was written. We all know that the vibe of "right to bear arms" was to enable the pioneers to protect themselves as there was no police or armed services. America is a vastly different place from those days. As a former teacher of constitutional law, surely Obama can argue that the interpretation of "right to bear arms" is only valid in times of lawlessness.

The world is watching you Barack....what are you going to do?

Re: America, will they ever learn?

This thread will keep coming up time and time again with another tragic event in the US...
how many innocent lives have to be sacrificed till something is done.
It's common knowledge American's don't like change, their stubbornness to cling to imperial measurements is a good example of that.

He's come out and supportered gay rights. That increases his chances of assassination as well. Infact just being black probably increases the likelihood there
