Alex Rance

Rance's turn around over the last season and a bit is pretty amazing. Full credit to Rance and Leppa.

A couple more transformations like this to a couple of our young young tall timbers and we'll be laughing.

Superb. Cloke got his few goals but Rance tried his heart out all night.

I also give him permission if he sees Brian Taylor or Luke Darcy to know their heads clean off.

Fair dinkum, talk about targetting a player all night. He had 2 glaring errors out of 34 possessions yet they went on like his kicking was McGuane like. I'm sure the stats would back up he was pretty spot on all night.

Spot on, they are so far behind the times these imbeciles.

Two years ago their commentary would have been correct.

joel bowden type stats last night.

reminded me of the Adelaide game at the dome years back, when wallace made us play keepings off and we beat the top side

his decision making is so poor, he's getting 34 possessions and we are in trouble. These days you just can't be average with the ball coming out of the backline and that's what he is - average.

The single dumbest post I've read on the game.

Rance is a standout. Watch a replay and note how many of his kicks under pressure hit their targets. How many times he reads the play and intercepts the ball both in the air and on the ground. How many one on one's with Cloke he won. How many he frees he won by getting position on Cloke. He also got a subtle headbutt in on Cloke at one stage. How many times he ran off Cloke and set play up. Redan noted earlier the goal he set up for Miller in the last through sheer gut-running off Cloke. The same Cloke who is ackowledged as the best CHF in the game, and in the Top 5 players in the league. Cloke got 2 of his 3 goals when Rance was trying to assist others and was caught out of position and received no help from a teammate in manning Cloke up.

Rance has fast become my favourite player. The kid will be a gun.

Mr Allybabe?

Said it before even when ferals were calling for his head, Alex reminds me so much of Darren Glass as a youngster, yet he also is the same physically as Darren Glass, one of the most maligned Eagles before he clicked now a celebrated and vaunted key member of Eagles success.

Alex has done very well under huge pressure first two rounds and whilst he does need to settle and improve his composure hes done a damn fine job so far.

Im liking the way hes coming on as a key back, *smile* me if 2/3rds of his team mates showed his desire for a contest we'd be a better side already.

Batchelor Grimes and Alex are all at the contest they like a contest thay are 3 which the backline will be built on.

Hopefully Alex keeps his graph on the incline hed be rated higher already in a better side.

Considering the love Henderson was getting for his job on jack last week - when in reality jack should've ended up with 6 goals. Unbelievable.

too right, people saying hendo did well on jack are wrong 7 scoring shots and those 3 misses, at least 2 shouldve been goals by normal jack standards and hendo got off lightly with jack kicking 4 goals.
Rance now thats a performance how many Fb's get 30 possies +

I think that's one area Rance has improved significantly on. He makes far better decisions than he ever used to and his ball use is a whole lot better than what BT and Darcy seemed to think. Luke Darcy claimed that Jordan McMahon was a good user of the ball, so what would he know?

Haven't watched the replay, was at the game. Thought he had a great game last night. Reading the comments on here, I can't believe the commentators. Had to check the stats again. 34 possessions, 17 marks, 82% efficiency. What game were they watching? Yet, the untouchable, judd, got similar possessions, at 70% efficiency and you would think he hit a target every single time. Just proves, some have their favourites, and don't let the facts get in the way of anything.
Great game Alex. Couldn't have asked for much more last night

Not long ago Alex was considered a liability. With injuries to Astbury, Griffiths, Moore and Grimes (last year) we're lucky he did step up. I'll forgive a couple of turnovers atm given the defensive responsibility this 22yo has now taken on.

Commentators seem to have ingrained thought processes. If they taint you once with a particular tag it takes years to lose it. That's what Rance is experiencing. At one point in his career he was considered a poor decision make and not the best user of the ball, so he's still trying to erase their memories of that. If he keeps playing like he did last night they'll alter their view and forget they ever said he was anything else.

Depending on match ups an game situations, however I'm liking him more an more as our chb an Grimes as our starting fb....

hmmm ok so he's 34 posses with 82% effective disposal percentage and 96 % time on ground is average
so that must make cotchy with 26 posses with 69% effective disposal percentage and 84% time on ground a average vfl player

we may as well pack up and close shop if thats your idea of average

One of he's best games so far, rance, grimes and batchelour gives me a reason to smile well done boys :clap

Cloke was flattered by his results as he cheated all night. Rance was killing him defensively and offensively but the turnovers are what hurts whether they were from Alex or from teammates which did not allow Alex time to get back.

Great game Alex

Yes one of thse was the deliberate out of bounds against Rance. Rance was first to the ball, Cloke slipped back and was unmarked. The other was Rance making the play but turning it over leaving Cloke alone again. Rance pantsed Cloke in almost every other way. Cheating is a very apt description of Cloke's performance last night.

Brilliant game from Alex. BT and Darcy are far too harsh. I reckon his kicking has improved loads, he just tried a couple too many precision kicks last night. But if you win 34 possessions in our backline vs relentless Collingwood pressure, you are going to turn over your fair share. 82% efficiency is top class.

There were a number of others who lost us the ball at the other end of the ground many a time.... yet no constant criticism of them. More goals were lost missing targets in the forward line, than turning it over out of defence!

i like Rance, a real leader on and off the field.

You never want your key back getting 34 posses tho, mids need to work harder to defend methinks.

The commentators carried on like a bunch of grannies arguing over which apples had the least bruises, Rance played a brilliant game on the competitions best CHF, his kicking was fine and 82% disposal efficiency backs that up.

On the few occasions the ball went to the opposition, the turnover was the result of an intercept and not some mongrel punt (ala Jackson, Edwards). This can be easily ironed out, better decision making generally comes with gametime and experience.

Rance will be a very important player for us heading into the future.

Great game. It pains me to admit it but Cloke is a gun player and Rance beat him. He also provides more run than most other fb's.
