The players fought very hard to have part of their salaries tied to the revenue generated by the game. Well they won that right now they need to suck it up.
Jack was a horrible sales person last night. His efforts to convince people that the players want to play 22 games because they love the game and not because fewer games will impact their pay packet were pitiful at best. I haven't seen Jack like that since those iconic images of him running away for journo's and trying to flee by train without a Myki card.
Agreed, big picture needs to be looked at here. Do they want a job next season too, as if they get paid 100% there is no guarantee that 18 clubs will make it to next year if they push for this.
A lot of people will be asked to make this decision too, there won't be many companies wanting to make permanent employees redundant as it will drain cash at a time when they are trying to retain cash, so will most likely ask permanent employees to either take a pay cut, or more likely take leave without pay, which if say was 1 week out of 4 would result in around a 25% paycut (before tax). If the AFL players think they can avoid what everyone else is going through, then they are truly living in cloud cuckoo land.
