AFL Betting Thread

Hahaha lucky me............I did too!!

$4 at under 39.5!!

Made up for Red Oogs canter at Doomben

Beware some elderly lonely thought police may be watching this thread for a link of a losing punt equating to not knowing footy ;)

G'day lads... for those who don't know (as i don't post on this thread) i like a bit of a punt here and there... although i never bet on football match results as I find i must risk a lot of my hard earned for a small profit.

However, I do bet on the Brownlow and i think now might be the time to spec a player at ridiculous odds. I am going with Troy Simmonds at the juicy odds of 1000 - 1. I dunno... the umps might like him... he seems to be in pretty good form... i know that ruckman never win, and Simmonds isn't Brownlow material at all, but FFS! He is at 1000 - 1!

What are your thoughts on early investments for the Brownlow, PREnders?

Had a good win on the punt on the weekend.

I had a multi-bet:

West to get more touches than o'bree $1.60
Adelaide over 15.5pts $1.16
Swans over 15.5pts $1.40
Saints over 15.5pts $1.28

odds were $4-1.

The bullies for over 61 points and the swans for over 61 for me this week.
I didn't have a bet last night and wish I did, the quarter quad was there for the taking. Damn it! Fabulous to see the bombers get thumped.

Heres my betting preview for tonights game for those that are interested

Preview

Tonights game at the Telstra Dome, Geelong vs Essendon sees a side desperate for a win up against a side thats lost 9 in a row and already looking at draftpics with minds set on 2006/2007.

Geelong have been fast starters all year winning 8 of their 10 first quarters but seem to go down hill after that, they got upto a 54 point lead last week half way through the 3rd quarter vs the Eagles before it all come crashing down to lose by 3 points and have only won 1 of their last 8 games.

Essendons form is even worse not having a win since opening round with this could be their 10th straight loss. Last week in Adelaide they had an absolute flogging by 138 points and lost to port by 60 points at home as favourites.

Both teams are really struggling to get a reasonable score on the board geelong not cracking the 100 since round 2 and essendon since round 1.

The lines set at -26.5 which is quite high for 2 low scoring teams, Essendon have been able to keep their losses to reasonable margins against all the weaker vic sides.

I think Geelong will win tonight but dont see any value whatsoever at there current odds and the lines to high. Bbut since they are such fast starters and essendon so poor im going to take the Cats to lead at every break @ $1.95

1 unit Gee-Gee-Gee-Gee @ $1.95

High Goalscorer Value
Hard to see a winner in this market tonight as both teams dont really have a big name forward kicking regular bags this year.

In amatch like this 3 or 4 goals should top the goalscorers

For Essendon Scotty Lucas is the most likely to be able to kick a few with 4 times this year his been able to kick atleast 3 his paying $6.50 in this match.

Geelong seem to share there goals around alot more then most teams and my pick this week is to go wit small forward Chappy. He been in great form of late and always chips in with a couple of goals so will be looking forward to this game up against some weaker opposition.

Value: Paul Chapman $6.50

Most Disposals Value
Most Disposals this week is between the following players ( Corey 3.75, ling 4.25, J Johnson 6.50, Ablett 6.50, Milburn 7.00, Lovett Murray 7.00, Johnson 7.00, McVeigh 8.00 )

Not going into to much detail into this one tonight as have my mind up without to much thought on Joel Corey tonight.

Watched this guy last week and he is an absolute champion and is so underated week in week out he does his job. Coming off a 36 possesion game against the Eagles last week and averaging 26 possies this year and being even more dominant in their wins. Doesnt have to bad of a past vs the Dons either racking up another 36 last time they met.

Value: Joel Corey $3.75

took the points spread on Carlton at 50.5.Obviously going to lose but Weagles aren't super Heavy scorers.Well hopefully. ;D

Leysy reckons Freo are massive massive overs this week.

They have an exceptional record against the dogs, who have struggled for the past month. @ 2.60 its money for old rope.

also like port to cover the line of 29.5 pts against a depleted Hawthorn.

& lastly our tiges might just eb a decent punt tomorrow as well

Crows by 39+ againist the sainsts this week.

Also reckon Port-WCE half time full time double. Eagles very slow starters.

:clap We again bow to evo's superior football punting ability.

Take the tigers this week at the line to increase the payout. The more you put on, the more you get back.

If i told you once I've told you 20 times jimbob. If you want make money on footy betting, never bet on Richmond or Freo games.

Tough week this week. Can't see much value anywhere.Need some ideas.

Maybe Essendon can overcome the 37 point spread?

Evo, I've got on to a bit of winner in recent weeks. No flash odds, but I've been backing total match scores to be > 185.5 points. Obviously if the weather is bad stay away, and contrary to popular belief, scores are generally higher on the bigger grounds, I think because it is harder to get back and flood.

Look out on BF for some disposal and goals head to heads. Liquidity is poor but you can still get a bargain. I backed Neitz to beat Rocca on Monday and got $2.20. I couldn't believe it, the odds should have been the other way round. On Friday night I got $1.75 for Lucas to beat Nathan Ablett!! Yes, Nathan Ablett! These sort of bets can give interest in otherwise dull games.

You will have to place your bet just prior to the game though.

K cheers.I'll keep an eye on it.

Would be great if BF could get more liquidity in AFL.It's the only drawback.

Agree. It is a pity we have the stupic can't bet in-play over the net rule because AFL would be a great in-play sport to bet on.

Took the Crows, they were monties I thought.

Actually like Carlton to beat the Roos this week. Maybe Carlton_carlton double.

Simmo into 50 - 1 on sportsbet.

My poor mate had Essendon and Sydney to win in his accumulator which would have won him thousands. Robbed.

Anyone invested on the Brownlow at this stage?
