Adem Yze

I feel for Yze. It’s going to get worse before it gets better and historically, new coaches don’t survive long enough to see things turn around.

With proper recruiting I reckon we'll see success quicker under him than what we saw under Dimma.

Our recent history is Hardwick
Hardwick came in at rock bottom. In 2009 we finished 15th with 5 wins. Hardwick improved the win/loss record every single season from 2010-2013.

Yze doesn’t have the young talent already on the list that Hardwick had (Cotchin, Martin, Riewoldt, Rance, Edwards etc). It will take multiple years of top 10 picks to accumulate a group of kids we can build our next finals side around. All the while, Yze will have to deal with an aging top end of the list and likely further declining win/loss ratio. As I said, history shows new coaches don’t usually survive that scenario.

The signs are there, but bit of perspective to with injuries his been dealt. Few points through he needs to change.

Pressure and tackling aswell as hitting targets are non negotiable every game full stop.

Match committee and himself need to wakeup because a group of our senior players are costing us and it's been a trend for 2 seasons. Regardless premiership players or not drop them were not playing finals get Sonz ,McAuliffe , Cumberland, Clarke snd Coulthard in the new generation has to be given game time

Yep, we haven’t plumbed the depths yet of a serious rebuild. Whilst we all know that loading up on the next 2 drafts is critical for our future it is going to come at a price and that is being uncompetitive in the majority of games we play for the next few years.

Needs to address clean centre clearance by opposition plus rebound out of our forward line - two biggest issues for mine.

Drop in intensity after half time was terrible - mindset?

The coach is the least of our issues. Personally I think he will be great coach.

Anyone complaining that things haven't changed enough need to just calm the farm. He is learning about the club and the players and I am sure we will see things evolve during the year.

I think he should be ok. He’s learning exactly what he’s got underneath him. Which isn’t much.

Having said that, he’s got a couple of things to improve upon himself.

The first one is team selection. He keeps playing guys that shouldn’t be in the team eg Dow and Banks.

The second one is defensively. I knew this would happen but it’s going to be worse than I thought. We can’t (won’t ?) tackle, and if we do, they don’t stick.

Marshall and Dixon took 10 uncontested marks between them yesterday and kicked 6.5. Lucky they were inaccurate. Simple lead up marks a la Ugle-Hagen. They hardly take a contested mark those two, so all we needed to do was make sure we had someone in the channel between ball and them. But we didn’t. One easy, lead up mark after another yesterday in open space.

He’s got some work to do on a defensive front.
Our defensive transition is so poor. Another function of our slow midfield. When I call Ross a plodder, I mean he can't catch anyone. Neither can the lame Taranto, Dow, Dusty or even Bakes.

I don’t come hear for balanced, measured boring views.

Tell your story walking pal.

hehehe yeah fair 76er.

To expound further in the same banal and sensible manner - we are a weird combo of aging champs, some top end talent, and raw untried and possibly mediocre rookies - plus a few good ordinary types eg Jack Ross, Mansell, MRJ, Miller. Injuries haven't helped our cause. I feel if we had everyone fit and firing we can still beat anyone, we saw that with Port and Carlton but couldn't sustain it for four quarters. On the other hand with our injuries and throwing the young fellas in we could easily get smashed, Sydney might yet to that this week.

I haven't seen any sign of a new game plan or major change from last year but that's OK, I'm gonna give Yze the season to bed it down, whatever "it" is.

Clear difference in game plan AA. Greater focus on contested ball and clearances...

Agree with all of your takes; I was popping off more due to my synapses firing up as a result of my double espresso than your comment.

I trusted you would see the humour in it.

I like many am fascinated by the potential growth of the likes of Campbell, Tresize, Brown, McAuliffe, Green, Sonsie, Bauer, Coulthard & Clarke.

(We may not be in as much trouble as it currently appears)

For if half of these players can turn into solid citizens then the club just needs to worry about drafting and trading in the top end talent needed to make the list formidable again.

(A reverse build as some have coined it)

We need a lift in pressure. Only 32 tackles on the weekend and the lowest pressure rating by any team this year. Even if you are a bottom team you can bring effort and pressure.
