Adem Yze

Needs to address clean centre clearance by opposition plus rebound out of our forward line - two biggest issues for mine.

Drop in intensity after half time was terrible - mindset?
Yze needs to change up the inside mids if they cant get a centre clearance they shouldnt be in there
Same goes for small forwards if they have no xfactor, cant crumb, provide defensive pressure and kicks goals why are they there?

Or put a hard tag on the best opposition midfielder to at least nullify the clearance or even force a stoppage (assuming we can stick a tackle). A secondary ball up would allow more players to get around the ball.

It was the clear walk out of the centre bounces that frustrated me.

Same in the Dimma twilight years.

hehehe yeah fair 76er.

To expound further in the same banal and sensible manner - we are a weird combo of aging champs, some top end talent, and raw untried and possibly mediocre rookies - plus a few good ordinary types eg Jack Ross, Mansell, MRJ, Miller. Injuries haven't helped our cause. I feel if we had everyone fit and firing we can still beat anyone, we saw that with Port and Carlton but couldn't sustain it for four quarters. On the other hand with our injuries and throwing the young fellas in we could easily get smashed, Sydney might yet to that this week.

I haven't seen any sign of a new game plan or major change from last year but that's OK, I'm gonna give Yze the season to bed it down, whatever "it" is.

Don't think it is that weird a combo. Coming off a dynasty it takes time for the premiership players to retire, or even to lose their touch. The drafted players are not from the top of the draft so a bit hit and miss. We're in a not unexpected place.

I have see some changes.

Yes, it doesn't happen often enough, but I have seen a few forwards actually move before the ball comes in and take a mark virtually uncontested. Didn't see much of that over the last couple of years.

We do need to sort out the intercept marking. Although it is difficult to stop a leading forward, we are not covering the space in defence well enough. Mind you, the way it comes out of the centre it is damned near impossible to cover all eventualities. The injuries haven't helped.

We saw against Carlton that we can play ok in the centre. In that game we kept the pressure on and Carlton's get ball and spread ability was curtailed. We even did it for 4 quarters. Not consistent but I reckon they know what they are supposed to do.

Yze I figure is taking his time as he knows that moving beyond the dynasty era and climbing back up the ladder will take time. He doesn't strike me as someone who isn't acutely aware of the state of the list. The positive attitude I think is good, and also a bit of PR. Gotta feed the chooks.

I have faith just because of Yze's demeanor, the content of his answers - seeing some good signs but not too much gilding the lily. He seems level headed and aware of the challenge ahead. Richmond is a big club with a big supporter base, he knows the scrutiny will be big to match.

It takes several years to knit together a solid, sound defensive unit.
Astbury was 26 when he won his first premiership.
It will take a few years for the cubs to improve.
Sometimes, they cough up the ball across half-back.
When they mature, then we have a four-year window.

I’m also a fan of Yze. But i wonder if he over estimated the list, throughout the interview process, and during pre season, he made mention that he expected a spike in performance, and wasnt putting a ceiling on what was possible. Didnt he realise what type of list we had? It was obvious to all of us that we needed a full rebuild.
Id be concerned if he didnt know or think the same.

Also, The game plan is identical to what we had previously under dimma and mcqualter, which i find odd, as he made reference to "live in the past, die in the present"
I was expecting something slightly different. 🤔
Listening too much to the old assistants and accepting their insights on the juniors too much.

Dow and Banks and Hugo to be relegated to VFL for the remainder of the season and replaced with games going into Jud and Macca, Coulthard, Cumberland, Bauer, Sonsie and Smith and Green when ready.

Seems like they were reaching debuting LeFau.

With proper recruiting I reckon we'll see success quicker under him than what we saw under Dimma.
I hope you're right mate & I believe we have the strength within the club to certainly back your thinking. Cheers

The club is foundering all the offf field departures have sucked the energy out of the joint.

Once the players start motioning to move on we could be in the basement real fast.

We’re pretty much there already, Craig. It’s a matter of how long we remain there.

Yeah, that's um, not good.

And apparently it's been rubbish the first 2 rounds as well.
I think we can forgive the pressure rating for round two. Off a 5 day break from the Qld heat and lost 3 players before half time.

Missing Jack Graham a bit in this regard, and i really think we missed MRJs pressure in the fwd line on Sunday

One thing that sticks out for me is our poor forward line.Yes Lynch is only coming back after a long spell. But no marks? We need more targets.Marking targets, and when the ball hits the ground swoopers.Hard tackling in our fwd line seems to have gone as well. Instil a three target mentality IMO. Balta leading out of on pocket,Lynch down the middle, perhaps Bauer leading out the other pocket.Pretty hard to counter 3 leading forwards at once.

Kosi's gotta stay in alongside Lynch as it's better to use Balta in ruck and attack.
