Adem Yze

Yze was very impressive in the press conference and sounds like he is pushing for certain standards when it comes to defensive efforts and structures. I liked the line about how in offence we don't want to lose the flair of some players, but I hope, and am pretty confident this would be happening, I hope he is getting on a few players' case about their execution and skills because that remains an issue.

I thought our defence was very good this week with Gibcus and Young going out we still managed to compete in their forward line. Yes, Carlton kicked badly, some of that was our pressure, not all of it though.

Will take a while to get his game plan into action, always the case with a new coach. But the way we managed to compensate for serious structural issues arising out of the injuries was impressive.

The amateurs at the AFL almost got something right tonight, not sure they have gone for the roving mike at press conferences but I could almost hear all of the questions Yze was answering which is very rare.

Now I know what his last round interview was and why Newy bowed out.

Benny G pulled the cover off Deep Blue and said “beat this and the job’s yours”.

Yze cracked his knuckles and smiled.

I agree with the Yze coaching capabilities. Showing a lot so far.

I'd say if we brought that intent to the GC game, we'd probably have won.

Dan Rioli is a real dilemma. We just can’t get him into games for long enough but when he does he is dangerous.

Just like we need two Baltas we need two Dan Riolis.

Thank God we have a handful of draft picks this year.

Baker is the key for me, he's not a forward or a mid. He plays best off the half back flank for me. Move him back and push Dan into the midfield rotation.

Better yet, push Bakes back, move Short to the wing and Marlion to the guts.

Not sure Dusty won't hear about it. Mitch McGovern shouldn't be that damaging.

I'd like to see the split of that between 1st and 2nd half. Sure Dusty could have done a bit more defensively, but I think this was more that he was able to float and intercept more as they only had Lynch to worry about forward. Was a real shame that both Young and Gibbo went down as it left Lynch isolated forward

The evidence is there if you look. Goodwin is a muppet but not so incompetent that he didn’t see where Yze belonged.

In the box. High up, scanning the tactical field. He has box craft and a tactical IQ through the roof.

My mail is that he analyses the three phases instantly and is making conclusions before anyone else in the room knows there’s a problem.

He’s no deity. The human side has had to be learned. He knows he isn’t Damien Hardwick the man manager but that’s why we have Chris Newman.

Box craft. Industry-best tactical agility, up there with Longmire and Lyon, perhaps better. We’ll see.

In some ways he is the antithesis of Dimma who despite all his strengths as a coach was always reluctant to make lots of moves in a game.
Yze seems to be happy to make moves.

Miller (ironically given what happened tonight with the injuries), Clarke, Coulthard, McAuliffe (although was quieter in the half I watched - all class though) & Tresize.
I’m definitely not a Miller fan but he has been very good this year. Perhaps the penny has finally dropped. He’s playing with skill and aggression and using it very well.

The thing that I love about Yze atm is his willingness to shuffle the magnets when something is not working. Massive contrast to Dimma's style and makes the opposing coaches re-think their game plan.

Dimma's and his team's strengths were "the process". They knew that if things weren't quite going to plan, if they stuck to the process then they knew they could turn it around - how many times were we down at half time and came from behind to win. Players often mentioned sticking with the process.
But when required, he could change it up. Balta forward and McIntosh to the back line in the 2020 GF come to mind.

Enjoying Yze so far.
