It was our running ability to get more numbers to more contests that was our main strength. We used to out swarm all teams and then had the ability to ramp it up during finals. This has unfortunately gone.

It's a fine balance between skill/smarts, competitiveness (ability to win contests), and running ability.
Yes. Look at our 2017 GF replays and our running ability is clearly on display with a younger and more lively Dusty, Cotch, Ellis, Edwards, Rioli, Butler, Castagna, etc. Dusty is now heavier and older, Daniel is still pretty good but the others are gone and replaced by less experience and in some cases less pace.

I think the boys are in for a very tough pre-season.

Senior coach will be there ready and waiting.

I really hope this guy is good. And I hope the faithful give him time to implement his game plan. And he also needs time to regenerate the list. I really can’t see it being a quick fix, as with McRae at scum, or Kingsley at gws. I would be absolutely staggered if we make finals next year

We nearly made it this year and we played like crap. Key injuries too didnt help our cause. I'm more confident making it than not.

Pies were expected to finish bottom 4 in 2022 and made the top 4. There is no ceiling to where we can finish next year.

My concern is not making the finals, but actually winning the finals, we know our current gameplan stacks up in finals, if we go down a new path, we have to be hopeful that gameplan holds up in finals type footy. For everything dimma related, i believe the focus was always a gameplan that would win finals, not just get us there.

If you can tweak the game plan to work with the cattle at your disposal and form the connection- then anything is possible. 2017 was a great example.

If people hadve said a fwd line of Mihocek, Frampton, Hill, Elliott, Cox would’ve won you a premiership - you would’ve laughed at it. In fact in 2017 it would’ve been the same at the start of the year for a fwd line of Butler, Castagna, Caddy, Townsend, Rioli and Reiwoldt.

This is why I expect some significant changes to the 22 - an injection of youth/pace and role players etc to support our A graders. Could spell the end for some of our regulars from the golden era - hence why I reckon they went with an outside coach with no personal ties to these players.

The Demons have had a style that wins you finals. They just don't have a forward line as they needed to chase another ruck despite having the best ruck in the game!! The hubris from the club and from their list management would be very disappointing if you were a Demons fan.

Yze has his fingerprints all over their style of play, so I hope we can emulate something about it. Getting a better spread of contributors out of our midfield (need more support for TT, Dusty and Shai in there) and then moving the ball quickly should hopefully open our forward line up for Lynch (if he ever gets over the foot) to do some damage.

Will we see more of Bolton in the middle? Maybe even Dan Rioli, Pickett, Baker?

Opportunity for players like Tresize, Maurice Rioli as on ballers thrown in there perhaps

Going to be interesting.

Yze has already said he likes the game plan of pressure and our forward handball game. he will just refine it. He will add some Melbourne intel. Had dees kicked straight they would be in another GF. They needed another key forward and not grundy that was a muck up.

The problem we had was we went away from what made us good, players slacked off, we kept playing underperforming players and with a new coach, players will get hungry again. Younger players getting more opportunities.
