Thanks for the article GTT.

This sounds really good as I was sick and tired of our terrible disposal even through the dynasty years. I want to see skill, skill, skill.

“Yes, but to be fair when you have had success you feel everyone is chasing you so you think you have to tweak your game plan. Richmond in the flag era was easy to scout but hard to beat. So it’s not about trying to create new tricks and new game plans,” he says. “It’s upskilling players who can get better at those roles in that system. (Richmond) went away from that because they were getting chased (tactically) and they were getting their game plan pulled apart. That’s only my opinion. But I have a clear focus on getting the boys re-energised, which is exciting.”
Pulled apart by the afl! Let’s be clear here!!

Let me introduce a concept I like to call the triangle of talent. Skill, athleticism and ball winning ability. Now pick two.

Most players, outside of a few unicorns are only proficient in two of these attributes at best. If we are going to start emphasizing the foot-skills (again, I’ve been around long enough to remember the not-too-distant past where we also tried this) then we are going to have accept players that are deficient in other areas. This is going to create other issues.

Personally, I don’t think lack of skills is our problem. I think we’ve lost the run, both endurance and pace, that made us so formidable at our recent best. We lost a lot of elite runners in the last few years and haven’t really replaced any of them.

Very good point TiFury.
Lennon, Jarhead Ellis. Good kicks, but didnt make it.
We cant go overboard with this desire for kicking skills.

Can the triangle be extended to a quadrilateral? Competitiveness.
That can include the desire and gut-busting to run. To make an option for teammates.
How much easier it is to kick to players in space, and not get under pressure because there are no options and so its a long dump kick.

And I think that's where we have fallen down the most........Competitiveness! We used to attempt to compete for, at the the very least, EVERYTHING! The boys have slipped in this area, 1,2 or 3 cups will do that. I think this is where the new voice will be in our favour. A new coach to impress I'm hoping will be a valuable commodity. In the

Elephant in the room…Bolton !

Fix his ridiculous kicking for goal and “bang”, will be in the top 5 best players in the league.

Does my head in with those quick 80m high snaps from 30 out.
Absolutely. Plays for the highlight reel all too often.

One of the finest reasons to appoint a coach who has fresh eyes.

Yze has a tough job ahead with the way the draft is compromised, NGA's and priority picks / charity FA hits.
I'm hoping with Dill at the helm, we won't be treated like sh!t anymore, but let's see how long it takes for Ooze to realise what we've gone through under Gill and his goons.

It was our running ability to get more numbers to more contests that was our main strength. We used to out swarm all teams and then had the ability to ramp it up during finals. This has unfortunately gone.

It's a fine balance between skill/smarts, competitiveness (ability to win contests), and running ability.

Kingsley wins coach of the year.......good stuff.

Fly 2nd and Fages 3rd (I'd give that to Voss)

Hoping Ooze wins it next season.

Shane thinks we’ve done well here.
apparently it’s well known within AFL circles that we needed move on from the snags.

The players should all be back from holidays as the B&F is on tomorrow night. Looking forward to hearing more from Ooze and seeing him interact with the players.

I really hope this guy is good. And I hope the faithful give him time to implement his game plan. And he also needs time to regenerate the list. I really can’t see it being a quick fix, as with McRae at scum, or Kingsley at gws. I would be absolutely staggered if we make finals next year

It could happen if we are smiled upon by the footy gods.

I reckon you might be surprised.

Lynch back and Kozi from Hawks providing a genuine second option forward will be orders of magnitude better than what we had this year.

Hopper will be fitter; Soldo will run out games more strongly after the preseason.

Gibcus back; another preseason into Brown, Trezise, Sonsie, Banks, Bauer, Young.

And Coulthard could be a real wilcard and will be coming off his first proper afl standard preseason.

Playing group re-energised with a new voice and new ideas.

Who knows what the potential upside will be for all of those guys.

I cannot wait for him to start coaching us. If anyone noticed, our inside 50 differential is the biggest area of improvement with us regularly getting smashed in territory in the second half of last season. The list is fine in my opinion but we are relying on some young kids to take the next step

He needs time players need to buy in to. We need to start with the basics skills , kicking ,defending ,transition etc all have been poor last couple of years. Add to that rejuvenation of the list and kids who were best 22 last season gone backwards Cumberland, Sonsie and Rioli. There might be some pain for longterm gain.

That - 100% that. I reckon a very large part of why we dropped off is lack of competetitiveness. They lacked the hunger given we'd done it so many times before, and all those extra miles of running caught up with us. Without new blood coming through to keep us fresh (I mean seriously, Dimma loved going back to the well), we had a lack of energy and fight.

We need kids who are near going to throw punches at training because they get beat in a one on one.
