Maybe. Are you referring to this situation? Do you know what the notes said, how they were intended to be taken and how people were blamed? Not sure suicide notes are written to intentionally cause guilt if they're written by someone in a very fragile state of mind. I do know, upsetting as they can be, suicide notes can help bring closure to the family. It's an awful feeing when there's no note and nobody can even guess the circumstances.

Wasn't criticising suicide notes per se. No I don't know exactly what was written, I'm going by reports that she "left a note telling the two DJs behind the prank that they were responsible for her death".

I don't know about that report. I understood that the contents of the notes wouldn't be revealed until the coroners report came out. If what you say is correct I'd have no issues as sad as I'd find it. There are also reports the DJs rang Jacintha back an hour or so later. We don't know how that call went. If those involved at the radio station were willing to impact on others' lives for a few cheap laughs they unfortunately risked the consequences no matter how unexpected. She had every right to tell them how their stunt affected her if that's in deed the case. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but no doubt a very hard lesson has been learned. We should never assume others feel the same, or would cope the same way we would. I'd be absolutely mortified and humiliated to be put in the public spotlight that way.

Agree.

The Reptilian overclass strikes again.

think we need a separate thread on this.

Yes I do think it's a selfish decision. It gives no thought to the people left behind to deal with it. Whether they're of sound mind or not.
In contradistinction, one could also argue that it is selfish to expect someone close to us to keep on living after they've made the serious decision that life is not worth living.Along a similar vein, I reckon euthanasia being against the law is absolutely appalling. If at bottom the state is the one who gets final say on your very life, I think that is to much to ask of someone.

Interestingly, one of the truly great thinkers of 20th Century, Albert Camus, thought suicide was the only serious philoso0phical question...... He could be right.

Some posters may find this wiki entry food for thought.

According to media reports, the nurse tried to kill herself twice last year (overdose and jumped from a building) and was on strong anti-depressants.

I wonder if the DJ's will get blamed for those as well...?!
I know this occurred in Britain, but it is interesting to me more than 1 in 10 Americans are on anti-depressants. One might imagine Britain wouldn't be that far behind.

That's an amazing stat I reckon: more than 10% of people across the board need a prescription drug like Zoloft just to feel 'normal'. that 10% also doesn't include people who self medicate alcohol, marijuana and other illegal drugs t o stave off depression.

Something is not right in the western world. innit?

Thanks Baloo. Evo is right then, extraordinarily high figure. Women 2.5 times the use of men too. Surely those figures are an exaggeration?

It is ridiculously high. I used the Reuters link because they don't normally go with exaggerated stories and for the most part research their news.

Just imagine how many shootings you'd have in the US if they weren't all drugged up on anti-depressants.
