2Day FM Phone Hoax

Really? If so it was a fair bit more impressive than their Royal impersonations. :p
Looked genuine to me.

Villains gaining sympathy publically. Sorry Oldie, but it doesn't convince me. No accountability was mentioned by either, dodged a few questions. All pre-planned. What do you expect from shows like a ACA and Today Tonight?

No doubt some element of PR however I still felt their genuine remorse. Each to their own.

never heard the radio hosts, but i think all they are guilty of is being another pair of gen Y dicks trying to be funny.

I find comercial FM stations absolute torture to listen to. What with all the ads, constant upbeat fast talkin, riducolous sounds, deep voiceovers and lame gags I don't understand how people can listen to more than 10 minutes of it.

Yep from the bit I've seen the the interview seemed quite choreographed, as is the nature with that kind of program The remorse did seemed very genuine though. With so much hatred and vitriol directed at them and having lost their jobs, added to the fact a mother of 2 has taken her life and 2 kids no longer have a mother, they'd have to be hard hearted not to feel deep remorse and sorrow...possibly even self pity which is a perception I got. I imagine they'd feel rock bottom no doubt. I felt there was a bit of passing the buck and things that didn't quite add up just the same.

Much as I feel sorry for Mel and Michael I also feel they are unfortunately in this situation as a consequence of their own actions. Obtaining private information through deception, and then publicly broadcasting, discussing and joking about it, isn't the least bit funny to me. I wish for, for the sake of everyone, including themselves, who has been affected, they had thought the same.

Anyone who saw the interview of these two DJs last night would see how remorseful they are for what's happened. I really feel for them. Shocking situation to be in.

No doubt about that, plus all the death threats they have had wouldn't have done them much good.
You can see just looking at them how this situation has effected them.

Interested to know how Prince Charles made light of it. What did he say and did he indicate he approved or if it was acceptable and/or amusing behaviour?

From the bits I saw of Prince Charles he was asked how Kate was and he smiled and replied something like you should check with the radio stations. He said it smiling and jovially really seemed no malice at all.

Gee, you had me doing the tango with U2Tigers on another thread.....don't get jealous now Rosy, there is plenty of "Liverpool lovin'" to go around :-*
:hihi

Agree, the existence of commercial FM radio is incomprehensible.

Agree. I experience severe aural discomfort. ( I can do a good suburban nightclub MC/DJ / commercial FM DJ which is a hit with mates, they all sound the same).

Interestingly, one of the TV blogs (I think it was TV tonight) reported that the DJs and Austereo refused to be interviewed by The 7:30 Report last night. Afraid of hard questions much? They were apparently supposed to do The Project alongside the 2 "current affairs" shows but she was too fragile to go on having done the other two interviews already so one of the execs went on in their place. I didn't see it.

About last night's interviews, I think the management should have also been represented to answer the questions about the post-production checks and balances. There are some people in the background of all this who made decisions to put this to air who have not been answerable to anyone publicly while these 2 young kids (who have shlepped their way through the ranks of God-knows-how-many Black Thunder appearances to finally get an on-air gig) have to be the face of something they were only foot soldiers in. It's weak by Austereo and weak of the rest of the media not to hold them to account.

Agree. They were told to do the job and even get a $50 bonus (if true as said by the journos) if the person they called cried. Don't worry, these 2 will probably lose their job while the fatcat CEO continues on.

I dont see the funny side of that Rosy :vomit2

I can see the headline now "AFL chat room moderator in hiding after far left poster suicides after being chided about homosexual affair with ultra conservative" :hihi

I meant in a purely platonic, riding shotgun, responding to everything you say with "good post" "well said" "agree" "stop picking on my friend" kind of way. Agree that wouldn't be funny at all...but still the signs are there. :cutelaugh

Sorry :hijack

What they did wasn't directed soley at the girl who suicided but once again there is that threshold of sensitivity.

What affects some, flies off a duck's back to others.

Not into the prank call thing.

Playing with people for a few laughs and boosted ratings.
What SAm Newman does on The Footy Show should be stopped.

Making fun of people to get the ratings up.

... But what they did was no different to the industry of royal impersonators (the likes of Gerry Connelly) who go around impersonating royals at public events. ....

Serious? I think there's a massive difference.

I think it's a disgrace this woman has topped herself and laid the blame at the feet of others.

Call me a bastard but I have no sympathy for those that commit suicide, and to try to pass the act off as the fault of someone else is *smile* poor.

This woman has been made into a martyr. She committed an illegal act. It's no-one elses fault but hers.

Silly prank.
It's a tragic situation.
But really, didn't she just transfer the call to another ward? It's not like she gave out any confidential information of any patient. I could understand it a bit more if it was the nurse who gave away patient information, but she didn't.

Obviously she was stressed. From work? Did the hospital do a review and give her what for? Were there any other personal issues at play that contributed?
I think there's a bit more than meets the eye with this.

Out of interest did you base that tirade on the tiny mention in that article or has there been more substantial evidence provided that it was actually the case? Surely you'd need to know reasons given and what the letter actually said before labelling her a disgrace. The article was more a throwaway line than an informative record of the action.

I wouldn't call you a "bastard" but I reckon it's a very sad attitude. Suicide is a very sad situation that can stir up a range of emotions.

I don't think the woman is being made to be a martyr. If this person felt it was a course of action she had to take due to others' harassment of her it's even sadder.

They didn't make her do it but she wouldn't be in the same position without them doing what they did.
