2024 Training With The Ooze Crew

4 x 10 Minute Match Sim Today Friday:

Non Participants :
Dusty, Prestia, Grimes, Tigga, Cumberland, Coulthard, Bauer, Lynch

Played a Half: Shorty, Gibcus, DRioli, Kaleb Smith, Ross, Young, Juddy (the later two, good to see as it means they are now taking some contact to their shoulders)

Starting Midfields: (Ryan, Sonsie, Dow, Hopper) vs (Nank, Taranto, Graham, Bakes, Mcauliffe)

Wings: Marlion, Kmac, Banks, Hugo, Ross

Forwards: Balta, Kossi, Shai, Mansel, Steely Lefau, Campbell - Ryan, Junior, Fawcett, Schoefield, Juddy,Colina

Backs: Miller, Tresize, Brown, DRioli, Gibcus, Smith, Broad

*As you can see some lines missing players but there was a host of VFL players to fill the holes.

Moving on to Match Sim itself:

Within the first 30 seconds Shai hit a grubbered centre clearance at full pace, one grab off his shoe laces immediately into a baulk and pinpointed pass to a forward and goal. A minute later from the next clearance he was hit up on the lead for a great grab, he missed the goal, (i am now jumping off Shai for the goal kicking comp ;) ). Shai continued to star throughout with brief stints in the middle.
Kossi: I have given him scant regard in the pre-season but he was the surprise packet today and if he presents and marks like he did today he may very well end up being a handy addition.
Balta; Very strong up forward and just the occasional stint in the ruck.
Nank: Showed today that he is still our number 1 ruck. When rested from ruck he and Samson rested forward for respective sides and Mate & Balta took the centre bounces.
Best of the midfield: Taranto, Hopper, Bakes and Graham started well early before being moved forward after half time.
Best of the Wingmans: Marlion, Hugo
Best Defenders: DRioli, Tresize, (although his kicking was scrappy).
Best Forwards: Shai, Balta, Kossi
Best Of the kids: Mcauliffe, Campbell, Sonsie

Above is as close as i could get to positions as there is always plenty of chopping and changing throughout the session.

*If you add in some of the non participants the sides and competition would have been more compelling.

*On a side note
Lynchy introduced a little bit of kicking into his training and some very tentative first steps in jumping for the ball.

Cheers

I did mention him amongst the best of the kids and yes he did some nice things and doesn't look out of place amongst some of our seasoned mids.

Mcauliffe from what I hear will be very close to getting a debut game if not against GC but definitely early part of the season.

Kosi definitely the standout forward today.

Were you there Smokin? not the one with the notepad were you?

Oh yep cheers, noticed you mentioned him, just wanted to see if you had more to say on him.

How was the quality of footy overall? Did anything stand out about Yze's plan, like were we attacking the corridor?

A blustery day, I thought it was a bit scrappy, i don't think there are any standout differences on today's viewing but there are sure to be tweaks to the game plan that escapes me.

Great report Caesar. Did Brown play in the same defensive line as Gibcus or on opposite sides? If together, how did they look together? Good understanding?

Probably out of your report I was most disappointed in the wings. Marlion is still good, but disappointed not to see Banks name in particular showing up there in the bests as I think like our defence, our wings are likely to see significant change this season.

I like your bests of the kids. How did Campbell go in terms of footy smarts in the forward line he was in?

No worries mate, they still giving you "fittest we've looked" vibes or are you feeling a bit tempered on all that?

Gibcus and Brown on different sides if i recall correctly.

Unfortunately for Brown he was given the Shai match-up for a decent percentage of time, I saw him punch the goal and point post in quick succession when Shai managed to get goal side of him and walk into goal, (at least it shows he cares).

Gibcus first competitive hit out for the year, a couple of good spoils but i don't think he had any marks for the half he played.

On Seth maybe more his running patterns than the amount of ball he got today that i liked.

Did dow do much or not really?

I don't think i have used the "fittest we've looked" in fact i am sure i haven't.

I may have have been tending that way on Cumberland and Prestia but that seems to have crashed and burned with Prestia now 3? and Cumberalnd 2 weeks in rehab :(

By the way Tigga was just standing and watching today, he did no run-throughs at all.

Thanks as always for the fantastic report! Graham on instagram said Fawcett played really well today (mentioned Mcauliffe as well and that they’re exciting kids), and Lambert also mentioned him in the clip posted yesterday, saying he had great forward craft. Has he been doing much to catch your eye?
