2024 Training With The Ooze Crew

We will have to agree to differ. It was certainly desperation or something close to it.

Our forward line last year without Lynch and with Jack cooked, was the worst performed we have fielded since pre Richo.

Dima didn't have any faith in Cumberland and Dan had been sent back after his own form slipped.
Dusty was understandably distracted, following his Dad's passing, and a long dispute in regard to the (harsh) Govt position on his father's right to remain. And Shai by his own lofty standards, was patchy.

Dima himself had lost the faith and it seems now, was already planning his next move. In result our team was a bloody mess and although it stabilised after Dima's departure, our forward line made very little or no progress until late, when Balta was finally moved in.

Players we had wanted and expected to keep in Stengel and Coleman-Jones were also gone and as I said earlier, Himmelburg changed his mind, as we slipped and GWS improved. Plus money tight and very little on the market and no 1st rounder in play.

So 100,000 members and an impressive array of hard won sponsors, and we were heading towards a cliff.
No criticism of Hartley or Gale as they did well and look to have got the best result possible from a very average hand. Good luck to all.
The issue of Kosi into the club is based on who's available. As you say, other KPFs all re signed so we, with no first rounder we traded Kosi and drafted Faucett. We go into 24 with Gibcus and Lynch. Martin back in great form.

After 13 years we have new coaching staff, new game plan. How many pressure fwds , how many KPFs will be a watch. Can we win close games?
Remains to be seen.

Our basket case fwd line is instantly improved with Lynch and a 2nd KPF. Will skilled players be selected? I am a Cumbo, Sonze, Clarke fan but they got their chance in 23 and didn't take it.

We chose not to match any bids on our departing players. Ellis . We've won 3 flags without Stengle. Chol and CJ were behind Jack R, Lynch and Nank and went to clubs that needed them. Soldo has been the back up ruck that Chol hated.

The Hopper trade has cost us a high pick....Cotchin played a lot last year. Maybe Sonz or Dow in his place.

we were out of the 8 om % Round 19...we had games with a lot of fwd entry but couldn't capitalise.

I think new coaches can improve us, and our club member no.s are kind've irrelevant,

Where are the Top membership clubs Eagles and Pies 2 years ago? Sponsors come and go.

Disagree, their form 100% warranted not getting a run of games!
But others that were gifted games when their form didn’t warrant them getting a game was ok
Lets hope with a new coaching panel the kids are given a go They may succeed or may fail but FFS give them a go it’s the only way to find out

Is the match sim being broadcast?

I don't think so. Club hasn't announced that. But this is where the club can do better to allow regional and interstate members and fans an opportunity to see the boys train. Surely the cost of setting up a couple of cameras and a stream doesn't cost them much?

You then can have other club spies join and watch the footage for keys to our game plan.

They could release "edited" vision later that day or the next day

Not sure we fundamentally disagree momentai I just find this view of it a bit hyperbolic. Use of terms like desperation, bloody mess and heading towards a cliff are all overstating the situation imo.

However I do agree that we needed another KPF and targeted the one we thought best suited us in our price range.

On Cumberland I also think too much is laid at Dimma's door and not enough at his. There was an interview with him posted a couple of months ago where he talked about needing to learn what is required to be an AFL footballer and to me a lot of what happened in 2023 was about that. He had to learn that when it is hard because things don't go your way you have to keep presenting and not drop your head and that defence is mandatory. After hearing that interview I was impressed with his self awareness which made me quite hopeful he may have a good 2024 because he is exactly the type of x factor forward we need.

What I will say that team selection over the last 2 seasons under our previous coach had alot to be desired. To many players getting games senior players also week in week out not performing continuously being picked while we had a few good kids performing in the vfl. Yze the breath of fresh air the youngsters needed.

Fantastic that there is a replay for those of us who can’t go. Also, if anyone going can try to find out the date of our Melbourne practice match, that would be great

"We needed another tall and we targeted one who has shown some ability to play at AFL level in the past. He has also been coached by Yze and Newman before and if they thought he was a dud you would suspect they would have said so."
.... one of the reasons Dimma supported moving on Chol once he signed up as coach at GCS. Hence; yep agree with the above by Yze and Newman.

The kids didn’t get picked because they weren’t good enough. Reckon only Bauer, Cumberland and maybe Trezise put in a “pick me coach, I’m ready” performance in the VFL last year and all were subsequently promoted.

How long was Banks and Bauer knocking the door and even Brown at stages ?. All we seen was Hugo come straight in. And when the kids come in they got dropped and took the rapt for our senior players.
