2024 Richmond Coach

I don’t know how anyone else feels but I’m finding it hard to get excited about most of these applicants
Although I remember being pleased when Wallace was first appointed and look how that turned out!! So I guess I shouldn’t be fooled by luring a “big name” in the industry but I’m a bit surprised that there hasn’t been more coaches in waiting busting themselves to coach one of the biggest clubs in the land
Probably a couple of things. If you've seen the stuff that's in the job ad, there's potentially criterion in there which some candidates wouldn't feel comfortable meeting.
It's a new age love in, with cuddles and sensitivity and inclusiveness at its core.
Definitely not concerned about the name of the coach - more concerned about their ability to get success. Coaching premierships or being an assistant coach in them is mandatory for me.

What’s clear from this and other recent threads around here is that while the club has moved on from the dark old days, plenty of supporters haven’t.

Not that I would have any idea but the thought of Chris Newman taking over feels right to me.

Immensely respected as a player. Club captain, smart and determined player. Culture builder. Captain under Dimma, assistant to Clarkson. VFL premiership coach. Assistant AFL coach. Articulate and always presents well. A Richmond man.

Ticks all the boxes for me and hope it happens.

Yep, I'm warming to Newie as well. I think he is the man.

Just thinking. If we could have anyone, who would it be?
The point is that they all have flaws with no silver bullet.
For me, Fly just in front of Sam Mitchell.

Whoever it is I just want him to implement a game style that involves better skill and ball movement. For as long as I can remember we've been a poorly skilled team relying too much on pressure and chaos to win games.

That could take a while - means a change in recruitment priorities.

Agree with this. We were clean in 2017 and 2018, but since Lynch arrived in 2019 and our 3 amigos disappeared, we became a bit messier with the ball.

We were messy in those years also, we just overwhelmed teams with pressure and run.

Not really, McCrae turned Collingwood around in his first season without having to wait for a change in recruitment policies.

Exactly right. Hardwick too wasn't necessarily an inspiring choice at the time. Hindsight says otherwise.
Learned a long time ago not to fall into the trap of thinking who I believe should coach us.
That's exactly why they have a thorough process.

yeah, precisely this

only thing I will say is I reckon it's imperative to have a culture man as head coach first and foremost

save the cold, calculated, tactical geniuses for the assistants

It would be much more enjoyable to watch and less frustrating. Would be a nice change.

This is it in a nutshell. We get better at executing the basic skills of the game. We are so scrappy and messy. So many butchers in the team.

Chaos ball is dead. We need a coach that can implement a game plan that places absolutely priority on clean ball movement. Pressure should also be a top priority. We have dropped right off in that area. You can have both; clean ball movement and pressure.
