2024 Richmond Coach

We are going for a young coach.
that will be set a new tone that others will end up copying.
we are the template club.

I reckon Benny will go for

1. reasonably young
2. Footy capital beyond the Richmond and Hawthorn and Brisbane eras.
3. A first time senior coach

im gonna take a stab at Corey Enright.

Leppa would be favourite.
Media would run with this and talk it up all season. Photos of Leppa entering Punt Rd through the back door. Secret meetings with Balme over a box of vanilla slices in a back alley cafe.
Imagine if this *smile* up Collingweeds run into the finals.
Delicious.

Yep. But you could make an argument that one or two candidates have been part of one of those eras (ie Richmond/Haw/Bris) but have also been part of other eras elsewhere eg Lappin at Brisbane and Geelong. Griggs Richmond and Geelong. Might be some others. Have to think about it.

Griggs a bit inexperienced for mine but would love him as an assistant.

Has there been a 2nd time coach since Leigh Matthews or Mick Malthouse to win a premiership in the last 20 years?
Go with an untried coach IMO.

The appointment of assistants will be just as important as the appointment of the coach.

We would have learnt a lot from how we transformed the coaches box at the end of 2016.

Dean Solomon was highly touted, 12 months or so ago. Coaching Tweed Heads now so unlikely.

I don't think Leppa has expressed a desire to coach again, plus he wasn't overly successful first time around a la Voss.

Pyke has the personality of a wet sock - Pass, ditto Leon Cameron.

From recent coaching vacancies I can only recall Yze and McQualter as getting interviews, who else has applied for a coaching gig recently?

Jarrad Schofield ?

Played under Malthouse, and in a premiership under Choco Williams. Coached Subiaco to 3 flags in the WAFL, could do worse than getting him to go through the interview process.

That 's really good thinking. Gold criteria. Leppa being involved in two clubs as an assistant that have had incredible cultures make me think that there is something there but Checkers makes a solid rebuttal here.

And that makes me think that someone like Enright or Lappin (who has Geelong equity) is the way to go. And...

How long are Teague and Truck signed for ?
Have to go. It's start fresh time.

When was the last time a coach with no premiership success, went to their second club and won a premiership?
Malthouse is the only one I can remember and west coast stack the list for him.

2 senior assistants with at least a year to run you’d think. Reckon that’d be a LOT to pay out. Big time. Can’t see them both going.

I Took a scan because this interested me

No wins then winning flags

Malcolm blight (Adelaide (2) after Geelong)
Robert walls (Carlton after Fitzroy)
Norm smith won (6) at Melbourne after nothing at Fitzroy
Malthouse per above

Winning flag then winning more

Jeans won at st kilda and at hawthorn (3)
Parkin won at hawthorn then at Carlton (3)
Barassi won at Carlton then at north (2)
(Edit) Matthews at collingwood then Brisbane (3)
Lot of success in getting experienced coaches when you look back through history.

I went back to the Melbourne ones and no further.
