2024 Richmond Coach

Come on if we're happy with that game we're in for a long journey alot of the same issues still there poor skills , brain fades , turnovers, nd forward line no function. His did well to steady the ship , but its not rocket science players playing to there strengths and correct positions.

These things generally take a pre-season to fix.

Suspect you might be close. To me he is on a hiding to nothing. He bloods all the youth at the expense of the older seniors and we finish say 10th he probably doesn't get the job but gives the new guy an indication of the depth. As long as we have a sniff making the finals he has to tweak the existing game plan and hope. Gee that Essendon loss and the couple of fade outs looking costly now.

the start to the season and those losses in the 1st 7 games under the previous coach was putrid.

Very quiet behind the scenes at tiger land barely any news about what is happening with the process. Interesting Balme said on RSN the other day they are more worried about playing the season out. Makes me think it might drag out a bit

We are in no rush to tell the world.
We dont announce it while Mini is coaching this season.
Too distracting for the players, disrespectful to Mini (unless he gets the gig).

Richmond is about to move to the next stage of its coaching search with an interview process for aspirants which will see Andrew McQualter committing to the entire multi-step process.

The club’s football department and board have refined the criteria for their next coach after a series of meetings since Damien Hardwick walked away on May 22.

Chief executive Brendon Gale indicated recently the club would likely replace McQualter with a first-time coach given the trend that has seen only Mick Malthouse win a premiership in the last 20 years as a coach with previous senior experience.

.....

The last six premierships have been won by coaches appointed with four or less years of experience as an assistant before they were appointed, in 37-year-old Hardwick and 38-year-old Adam Simpson and Simon Goodwin.
.....
Journos arent particularly smart.
Our criteria is not going to be as basic as
* only first time coaches
* only 4 years or less experience

ha. It took years for Dimma, Simpson and Goodwin to succeed as senior coaches.

What was clear last night was that McQualter had no answers/solutions/plan B to what is effectively Dimma's game plan. Having never worked under another senior coach he doesn't know anything else.

It was clear as day that he needed to drop the loose man in defense, even up around the contest and apply man on man pressure. The fact he didn't make that change and let the train wreck continue for the entire game indicates he is not up to the required standard for senior coach.

Predicting it will get ugly for the rest of the year from here as McQualter and the players realize he is not going to get the job and they tune out.
This thread is interesting.
It changes depending on the weekend's results.
We are not going to pick a coach based on a single game or single outcome.
Regardless of what posters want

Sentiment shouldn’t play a part.

Find the best candidate, best vision, honest vision, ability to communicate with this generation of player.

If that’s Mini, so be it I say!

Caroline Wilson says applications close this Friday for the big job.

Cue the 1,800 applications from foreign nationals that don't have the necessary work visa nor the experience just looking for a way to get into the country! Happens every time I advertise for a role!

I heard O'Rourke on the radio on Saturday, said applications close this week and the panel, which includes external/s, will be announced shortly.

I wonder which Pre-ender will be on the panel?
