2024 - List Management

Question Blair Hartley.

If that happens i.e. Campbell goes to main list.

Do those 8 free spots on primary list include assumption McIntosh and Dow get a contract? i.e. it could still be more if we delist either.
correct Cuz

Sethy onto main list give us

28 inc Kapsy & Not Paddy
6 Rookies
2 Cat B

Add 8 draftees

36 inc Kapsy & Not Paddy
6 Rookies
2 Cat B
Max 44 all up inc the 2 Cat B

We might even upgrade 1 or 2 more & leave a spot or 2 open for Rookie or PSD

I am not convinced Not Paddy gets a contract TBH

I stand slightly corrected.
I meant decent ones. Not ones we play in desperation like Kosi. Although he did improve a bit.
Gray? Fawcett? How far off are they? Are they genuine prospects or hail Mary’s?
Kosi 196 cms 96kgs
Fawcett 197cms 89kgs what position was he playing HK?
Gray 195cms 91kgs (small for a fwd/ruck)
Gray looked closer than I thought he would when we played him. He is undersized but rucked for us in the VFL. Did so for Essendon as well. He is quick and agile so comes across as more a CHF type to me. Chatted to him at the last training session. It would appear that he has been given a clear role for 2025. Wouldn't reveal what it was but that he had been told what was expected of him and he was keen.

The Tap is strong overhead. Quick. looked to playing more a CHF role. Hit up to the wing well in one game and took contested marks as the down the line outlet player from defense.

Given they're both technically in year 1 coming into year 2 I don't see how we can judge if they're decent or not yet. Both have positive attributes that indicate they may be able to offer something. The Tap is not a hail mary imho. Clearly drafted for his KPF attributes and cruelled by injury in year one. Let's see how he fronts for training in a couple of weeks.

Jacob B. also showed some real positive signs in the last 2 rounds albeit more as the 3rd tall forward.

Cheers brother and yeah agree re us leaving a spot or two open. We defo will leave one for SSP you'd think.

I see the benefit of Kmac, great around the club, exceptional trainer, plonk him as the sub every week, easy done, fills whatever gaps we need when the sub comes on, doesn't force a young kid into the vest, enabling them to get as many minutes in 1 of our 2 teams.

Dow however, I don't get it. If we were going to keep another 1 I'd have probably held into Cumbo, at least he has potential upside, we've seen everything Dow has and he isn't good enough. No reason to give him another contract IMO.

You raise some very good points. As you say, very early days yet. Whether or not they can play a relief ruck role at afl level will remain to be seen.
But even if they lack the physique for rucking, if they can keep improving and make a mark as a Kpp I’d be happy.
Thank you for your reply, much appreciated.

You're obviously a permanent fixture around the club and I love your insights HK. Always considered and measured, no hyperbole or histrionics (I know I can get caught up in the emotion of it all sometimes)

Thanks mate (y)

Gray a interesting prospect very good attributes and ready for senior footy. I think Fawcett has alot to work with to.

I feel like some are writing off the guys we have too early.
I have little idea about them so great to read this.
Fawcett looks like he has the tools but we have seen so little of him.

I was impressed with both from the limited game sample size. We still really are in need of a ruckman though that can give Nankervis a decent chop out. We’ve been saying Ryan needs more time, but he’s barely better than when he was on our list four years ago.
Naismith was a write off with his injury history. Colina I’ve never understood how we have him on our list after watching his few VFL games as he showed absolutely zero. OHB I’m impressed with his rapid progress, but is he able to help out Nankervis this year?
OHB biggest weakness at the moment is surprisingly he refuses to jump at contests as seeing videos of him as a basketballer he had a huge leap. What you’ve given to us as ruck prospects is slight and I wish the club had picked up Tom Campbell for two years until Gray and OHB developed in the discipline and physical demands of it.
Fawcett as our only KPF prospect is poor planning as he’s so raw , but looks like he has something to offer. Unfortunately after Jack we really failed with our picks in this area.

FFS, just delist Dow, he has not shown he is AFL level at all.

I'd keep KMac on, he contributes, can play anywhere and I just don't agree with a lot of the criticism of him. 1 more year ill probably be the limit, but he remains a valuable player.

We've got 27 senior listed players
We've got 7 rookies
2 Cat B (max outside our list)

As Taztiger put above, we need minimum 36 on the list.
No more than 6 rookies.
No more than 2 Cat B.

We've got room for 9 more on the list.
With Dow delisted replaced by Campbell, we'd still be at 27 but be at the max 6 rookies.

Plenty of room for more moves before the list lodgement on 31st October.
No real surprises on where the gaps in our list are, and without rating the players quality, we can see other areas we need to cover asap.
