2024 Fixture

They did exactly that Poshy. Listened to the media market that makes them money, not the fans who will put up with just about anything to support their club.

But thats still utlimately the fans right. The media has their money because the fans buy their content. If you alienate the fanbase so much, then they spend less on media content and media investment in the game drops.

Correct. So if you watch or attend round zero and gather round then you can’t really complain about them, because as far as the AFL is concerned you are supporting the concept by watching or going. The AFL are then able to say that the public loves the concept and then they become part of the landscape going forward.

This is the only way fans (not just Richmond, all fans who feel disenfranchised by this stupid concept) can fight it. Don’t go to it, don’t watch it, don’t bet on it. Ignore it. That may send a message, and it’s one that the AFL’s real masters (tv networks and betting companies) may actually get and will accordingly order the AFL to drop it. The clubs could also help. For instance we don’t play Dusty on the grounds that we don’t want to risk him travelling to play what is likely to be a hot and humid game then back up 5 DAYS LATER for another game. Not being able to promote him going there and playing against his former coach will boil their *smile*.

from the Age, Peter Ryan article (didn't want to post the whole thing...too much cwood)

The biggest loser

It appears the AFL doesn’t expect Richmond to contend; the club has no Friday night matches and only one Thursday night clash, other than their round one game against Carlton.

The Tigers play at Norwood Oval in Gather Round and have to venture to GMHBA Stadium to play Geelong. They have also been handed an away game against Collingwood at the MCG and play at Marvel Stadium in rounds 21 and 22. They play outside Victoria seven times. The Tigers and Melbourne also have two five-day breaks in the first half of the season.

"Hey lets put a round before round 1 and call it Opening Round, and still have round 1." WTF

You cannot make this *smile* up.

The fixture is definitely insulting to the club. However if we get a reasonable run with injuries, embrace a different game plan and play well, it doesn’t look like a terribly hard draw.

What makes them think we can't do a Scumwood or GWS in our new coach's 1st season????

The AFL is expecting us to finish in the bottom third of the ladder. The fixture reflects that.
The fixture looks designed to try and make sure that happens. So the fixture is FIXed. A corrupt sporting code.

Given we have a much stronger draft hand next season I am kind of expecting a ‘development year’ in Yze’s first season in charge. Finals really would be a bonus next year as we implement a new direction & weed out those who can’t deliver it nor will be part of our next successful era. Not saying we won’t make some waves but not many here would think we’re a genuine Premiership threat in 2024.

Yep, same here Oldie. At least look forward to the game days with lower expectations. Interesting season coming up.

They do this with thurs rd 1 too, just because it gets 80 oddk through the gates doesn't mean we all like the timeslot, media push that narrative tho as it suits their agenda. I'd love to see those in the media spend a yr out in the real world & then we'll see their attitudes towards it change.

Our double ups are the only thing about our draw that is good, we get 2 top 6 sides, if i could pick 2 from that bunch these 2 would be it. The other 4 teams are nothing to be worried about.

Given our draft hand it may not be the worst thing, our picks will be good & Freo aren't tipped to do much either given they have once again lost players from their "best 22" & not gained anyone. If there's 1 yr of having a "development yr" may not be a bad thing it's next yr. Plus those looking for their annual academy rort of the draft wil come calling for those picks/pts so we can really do well at the back end of it.

Yes I'm not advocating tanking but there's some years it's better to finish lower than others with an eye on the future. We haven't had access to any top end draft talent for a long time now. Wouldn't hurt adding more young talent to the ones we have coming through..
