2024 Draft Thread

How many of his goals are from true contested marks DIY?
Catch? None of em can catch, Dr. Jump? They can't do that. Jump and catch? Utopia.

He's a worker. He'll stand in front and get his head punched in. And bring it to ground. If he can't do that he'll go to CHB.

Sheesh. Stand and get your head punched in? My AFL career isn't over then.

Brightside post YHBW.

We now have TWO monster inside outside goalkicking midfield beasts.
We now have two ELITE distributing kicks off half back.
We have replaced Dustin and Shai in one go.
We now have developing talls out the wazoo.
From what I have seen, we have two deadeye dev forwards.
From what I saw tonight we have drafted some very level headed young men who are very excited to be with us.
Trainor seems like Alex Rance 2. Will he slide around naked in the rooms?
Lalor will be Captain in 3 years.
We will be in position to NAIL the 2025 draft.
28 finals.
30 flag.
Go Tiges.

By the way, we're talking 1st round talls in a supposed deep midfield draft yeah? Why reach then?

It's rare these days, Tom.

Shanahan won't stand in front. Armstrong won't. Jack W can't. Junior is even skinnier. Tauru jumps on the others. Faull stands in front and gets drafted.

Sorry, but if Armstrong was rated in the 5-7 category there is no way we take Faull first (at 14). Posturing at it's finest.
They wanted Faull because of his aggression and competitiveness they also think he has lots of upside because of how he'd missed the start of the year with a back injury.

I took it that the club rated Armstrong, but thought he'd go higher because of other clubs interest.

Respect that and you General, but I've worked for 2 clubs and they will definitely tell you what you want to hear about draftees. I've never, ever heard a club come out and say "we got it wrong and the players we wanted were taken already".

And Trainor. Both of them taken before Armstrong who's ranked 5-7.

Every recruiting team says it though.

"Can't believe wily old jayfox got through to pick x, we had him ranked b".

Sorry all you like mate, at one point phantoms had Melbourne taking him 5, I like Armstong not at 5 but love the selection at pick 23.
Drafting is all about mail on who goes where and what your needs are which doesn't always equate to where they are ranked on talent.
IMO RFC wanted the most competitive and aggressive forward and deemed it to be Faull, is he good enough? don't know but fills the brief. They were pleasantly surprised to get a slider they ranked highly.
Not fussed if you hate the pick but just passing on quoted comment from Geisch.

We hardly need to add spin when we had so many picks.

The other little bit from Rhy - Hotton and Armstrong or Trainor were best mates. Known each other for a long time. When the club interviewed them, they asked what chance both would end up with us.

We've taken some kids with strong leadership skills. Big bodies. Competitors.
Definitely a trend in those.

2 picks left, exciting times tomorrow.

If Armstrong gets separation it's clunked. Fuggedabowdit. Then probably slotted. Do that 3 times a game you're a star.

We got two starting mids. Two out of three aint bad.

I don't see starting mids after say Langford. Change mids? Who do you want? I want Hotton.

I don't buy that this is a super draft. We took the talls when the mids ran out. And I think an average tall forward is very valuable. There are no above average tall forwards in this draft IMO. And they're speculative at the best of times. I'll cop the workers.

I really like the pairing FWIW.

Faull was on somebody else's radar. We nabbed him. Armstrong? Got through to us.

Faull is macho. We're not the only club who noticed.

Fans may have copped Armstrong then Faull. But Faull is the only rugged tall forward in this draft. Crucially with Faull, despite an injury damaged season he got right - and then levelled up. He closed the season very strongly proving that he was better than his earlier injury damaged numbers showed.

Somebody else was on Faull. Twomey says Sydney. I think another as well.
We heard GWS. Who had picks after where we took faull, but before our next. Sounds like perhaps some good intell.

Agree, but I am a steal though Shady Rays. Tell the people what they want to hear.
