2024 Draft Thread

With Lalor now a lock at 1 and next to no chance one of FOS, Smith or Langford get to 6 and going by Twomey we don’t have strong intrest in Draper I wonder if taking Tauru is the best option ? Sounds like it’s out of Allen and Smillie with more chance Smiliw gets to our next pick . Lalor, Tauru , Smillie , Reid looks ok to me or Lalor , Smillie , Reid and Berrry is ok too

My question is whether this draft will cement pick 8 in 2008 as one of the greatest draft picks in Richmond history?

Originally used on Tyrone Vickery who played some useful and frustrating footy for Richmond. In 2016 Vickery was traded for pick 29 as a compensation pick for his free agent move to Hawthorn and that pick was used on Shai Bolton, dual premiership player and AA rep.

Shai Bolton has now morphed into picks 10 and 11 in this draft ( I know there were a couple of elements) and these players will be a legacy of that original Vickery selection.

It is truly the magic pudding of picks. Has there ever been another with its ongoing quality and legacy?
This is a good example as to why talls can still be astute selections even in the event they turn into mediocre players. 16 years later we're still reaping the benefits and with any luck, those 2 picks become a genuine A grade talent. I'd be bundling the Bolton bounty and grabbing pick 2, lock in Smith and chalk in another 200 gamer. That's a 26 year investment off the back of 1 tall selection in 2008, 400+ games if we play the percentages.

It'll be interesting if the top 4 are Lalor, FOS, Smith and Langford. What then to Melbourne do? Do they like Draper? Do they go Tauru? Do they go Smillie? Or do they go a bit leftfield and go Allan / Travaglia at that pick.

I reckon if Draper goes to the Crows, its easy, they go Langford, but its more difficult to predict what they do if the Crows take Langford at 4.
Twomey is talking like the dees and tiges aren't interested in draper.

If purest mid means the one who can't play any other position, then yeah, it's Smith.

If Smillie gets to 10 that means we can trade 6. Tauru gets to 6. FOS gets to Richmond.
There's still va Norfs pick to play out, spook. Twomey's saying it's over but. FOS to Norfs.
Surely not if Tauru. Is still there Jack?
Twomey has Tauru to Saints, Mo. He's probably right. I'm still half expecting a late play for #2. Maybe more than one late play. But there could be a late revelation of Blair's masterplan to snare Tauru.
Unless it is Allen Jakovich at 6, I'm a big yeah nah. Take Smillie at 6. Take Jagga at 6. Take Langford at 6, if any of them are there take them.

This Twomey rumour is the first sign of us getting too smart, too clever, too many picks for us to go wrong. The Richmond team need to get outside the war room, touch grass, feel the sun on their skin cause this is getting funky.
Maybe Taylor is getting too smart, Scoop. We'll find out. FWIW I'm hoping we can do better than Allan at #6.

He is a rookie pick according to some West Coast junior watchers, his endurance is well below the required levels.
I'll be shocked if true. His endurance isn't well below, thats overstating it, might be below but not unusually so. I watched a couple of his senior Subi games this year and to my eye he got up the ground and ran games out OK, especially for a junior. His class and game impact stood out though.

I would still bid for him, Andrew Krakouer came from a low base too, it's possible to build from his current levels.

One trade I’ve seen elsewhere, but not mentioned on here is with GWS - 10/11 & 23 for 15 & 16. The thinking with this is that there’s someone GWS really like (might have been Travalgia) who won’t make it through to their picks. We’re then in the perfect position to pick Lindsay or Allan with 10/11 and then Berry and our preferred tall (Whitlock/Faull or maybe Shanahan) at 15/16.
Big rumour doing the rounds is a 3 way pick trade with us the Eagles and bombers
Not sure of the exact picks 🤔 but heard a few different people mentioned it

Poor FOS. I'm sure he'll take it like a pro, but poor bastard. He would have been barracking real hard for that pick swap. Wonder what nickname he'll get from zany funster Clarko? Fossie Bear I suppose going on form. Full Of *smile*? Dental? Michael Finnigan ha ha, geez, crazy old Clarko.

In effect 11 would drop to 15 and 23 would rise to 16. So 3 picks between 10 and 16 instead of 10 and 23. Possibly makes sense if you believe your #11 preference will still be there at #16 and your #23 preference won't make it to there but will at #16.
1-lalor
6- josh Smillie
10 -Xavier Lindsay .
15- joe Berry
16- jobe Shanahan
18-jack or Matt whitlock
20- Jessi dattoli
24- Harrison Oliver

Would have to be after a bid is made on Kako. Twomey was adamant that the bombers wanted to get back into the draft and the only capital they have is two F1s

FOS trained with North. May be he tanked to avoid them?
He avoids pick 1 and gets to North

I'd love to know what the knock on Draper is. As a player he is a jet and seemed very sensible and personable in a media interview yesterday.
