2024 Draft Thread

I don’t get the discussion around only picking 6 or 7 and taking a pick to the rookie draft.

Surely the gamble on a first rounder or early 2nd rounder this year is way way better than a rookie pick.

Also, in terms of trading into next year - we only do that in 2 ways imo

Firstly, if we want to trade one of our first rounders into next year as a direct swap, I would be asking for 2 future firsts back ie each of our #18, #20 - #24 say this year is way more valuable than a future pick that lands in the teens next year, way more plus you lose 12 months development So even if a club offered their future first and future second eg Cats with #15 and #33 for one of our picks this year, I wouldn’t do it. In other words, I would consider letting the bumbers back into the draft with their 2 firsts next year but not many other clubs have the picks.

Secondly, getting future picks for me only works if we fall back a few places in picks with the cost is a future first or second coming to us depending in where it happened. We therefore still stay active in this draft and end up with 8 picks whilst accumulating some futures.

It’s definitely risky yott due to the fact of the evenness of the clubs , if we’d traded for the Hawks future furst last year we’d have been very happy at the time.

As a boutique board dedicated to just one club does PRE have enough regular posters for a full scale Chernobyl level meltdown/Big Footyesque server crashing free for all?
Crikey mate. Chernobyl is a little firecracker compared to what we can do

Not that we know if the media are correct with us choosing between Lalor, Fos and a small chance of Smith , however BBQed blue cod says they’re probaly correct , I wonder what Toce thoughts on number 1 was and how influenced he may have been with Lalors hammy and Fos’s outstanding draft camp .

I would imagine the way our football club looks after each other that they wouldn’t have been asking anything of Chris over the last few months with the added crucial information, such a crazy situation for Blair and the team .

Looks like Lalor is locked and loaded for 1.

Definitely reported to be the fave in the media , however with the closeness in the top few and a bit of smoke and mirrors going on , I won’t be shocked if he’s not the first name read out , hope he or Fos are but won’t be fussed

Depends where you see value in the draft.

2 and F1 from North for 6 and 11 for me is value. I don't get this rhetoric that 11 (which will be 13 or maybe 14) will be better than a top 8 pick next year. Add to that we get to choose our 2 our of the top 6 than I'm happy with that.

That would take us down to 7 picks.
If Port are up for that 10 for 13 and 29 trade, I'd do that too personally. I'm not sold as much on Allan and Travaglia as others and would slide back a few spots to get a Lindsay or J Whitlock and bank the extra pick.

If we were offered either of the Bummers picks for Pick 18, I'd be doing that, and then as you say you trade back potentially with our last pick (24 or 29) depending on if there is someone still on our board that is way above the others, then you take the pick, or if they are fairly even, take the value of drifting a few spots and banking a future pick.

There are going to be heaps of 1sts up for sale next year as those academy clubs try and seek best value for them. Having a group of picks in the 20's, or late teens will provide us with an exceptional hand where we could have another 4 1sts in next years draft.

If that means we pick in the 30-50 region or even with our 1st pick of the rookie draft, then I'm ok with that, there is a lot of value IMO in that 35-50 region, a lot of draftable players.

If trading gives us a better drafting hand across the 2 years, then why wouldn't we do it. There seems to be a real rhetoric about this draft, it will be interesting to revisit it in a few years time, to really decide if it was the superdraft that some seem to be making it out to be.

Love to get a gin key forward like Lynch tl , however I’m not convinced we are all that great down back with a big blokes , I’m confident Balta will get back to his best if settled down back , Gibcus could be a star if body holds up , however that’s a huge if , I’m not convinced on any of the others will make the grade , it’s certainly not an area we can think we’ve got covered
Good reasons for prioritising Tauru.

With talk that we have strong interest in Bo Allan is the knock on him his disposal ? Just had a bit of look at him , looks an aggressive bull type that will stem the flow when things aren’t going your way in the middle , appears to be strong and have the ability to sit on a player , just appeared to have average disposal by both hand and foot and not sure he has a right foot at all , certainly wouldn’t be unhappy to have him at Punt rd
Not a fan - average disposal and decision making
