2024 Draft Thread

Why?

If they trade their F1 for say a teens pick and then take Tauru at 2, that is no major difference at all to the deal that was around of 2 and F1 for 6 and 11.

They still get Tauru and it would just depend on how good the pick they got for the F1 was
As i posted, if they dont use pick 2 in the trade then they dont get added value out of 2. Which is clearly whats at stake. Looking to trade down and still get who they want.

Trading a future first for a pick in the teens is then a separate trade. And questionable at that.
The point is that North look stuck at the moment. And pressure is on them.

Is there a pick where Trainor becomes a risk worth taking? Very highly rated all year, the concussions are a very big concern though
After pick 20 is probably a reasonable risk.
Us or GWS with multiple picks the most likely landing spot.
Or Dogs or Port at the start of the 2nd round. High value if he makes a career

Less of a fail than accepting 10 & 11 and not getting Tauru if that's who they're desperate for. It's a tough position for North. Feels like they didn't think through this very well.
Its being fixated on one player that makes it difficult.

Want to trade down to get talls?
There are good options available.

Wouldn't draft him until well into the 30s IF he has serious concussion issues - not worth the risk. Really hope we don't draft him if that is the case.

Main reason no one has won the premiership with players the same age is because no one has been in that position before
Trading out of this year’s draft into next is hardly going to change our age demographic.
Saying we need to trade into next year’s draft so our recruits aren’t the same age is nonsensical

Trainor's last concussion he reckons was totally over blown. He reckons he was fine straight afterward and was running around the next day no problems. No post event symptoms at all really. Did training etc during the week.

I’ve read this thread again and I have decided that all the prospective draftees are *smile* or too risky.

Pity
My uninformed take based purely on reading this thread:
1. For risk aversion, If you disqualify kids that have already copped serious injuries or concussion issues,, Jagga Smith should be first picked for Richmond.
2. FJ's local league closeness to Smillie suggests a conflict of interest that may cloud his judgement.
3. Having previously been averse to trading for pick 2, now I think it makes sense, so as at least to grab two of the best potential midfielders,
4. Rance 's dad was a great footballer, Hotton's dad much the same for Carlton. Grab Hotton this will annoy
Blues fans for years to come and maybe be payback for Lennon/Cripps and the druggie half back flanker we traded from Carlton and never got a game out of .........
5. Langford>Smillie

He had 2 concussions last year and was taken to hospital for his latest. Overblown wouldn't be the word I'd use. Each concussion adds to the last. Not a good omen unfortunately for the young fella.

PRE would melt down.
PRE will find a reason to melt down over a draft pick anyway. Seeing as we've demonised a guy who was touted as the no 1 pick earlier in the year, we'll find a reason to argue the clubhave stuffed something up.
And it'll all be because of 600 points....

There are 30 AFL capable - but there are not 30 A graders.

It's a weird year, far more depth of players that should make it - but they each have different flaws.

Even at the very top of the draft - there are 8-9 mids that could be very good, but will they all be A graders?

They have more flaws than the say the two stand out mids that sit at the top of a more typical draft.

A draft that will really sort the good talent ID teams from the bad I reckon!
Never said anything in my post about A graders.

The Blair bias to Smilie with the family link could be either a help or hindrance
So, this Blair bias thing seems to be getting out of hand I reckon.

Some folks think we might take him because Blair coaches footy at the same club Smillie played for. He never coached Smillie apparently. Media could be jumping at shadows because of that link.

Perception is a bummer. FJ is really on a hiding to nothing on this because of the media talk and picking @6

I have a feeling we could raid WA again. We back in our culture with the WA boys and we still have a couple on the list.

Would not surprise me if we picked up all of
10/11 Allan
18/20 Gerryn
23/24 Bauxhaul
