2024 Draft Thread

This question may have been answered elsewhere so apologise if that's the case: Many are reporting that we won't select Ashcroft with our no.1 pick and force Brisbane to grab him with their points under father son rules. Why would we assist Brisbane by not picking Ashcroft? FFS they are the reigning premier, why help them?
Came to an agreement as part of our trade. Makes total sense to me (others disagree as is their constitutional right) Been discussed ad nauseum in the past. Some think we will still bid #1.

Thanks for your response. But why would we agree to this? It only helps Brisbane be stronger and get what they want. I don't understand it at all?

If North do that, then what?
They have 2 and 15.
They gotta pick Taurantino at 2.

Say its a trade with us. They have 2 and 11.
Again their second pick is too late and Tauru will be gone. So they pick him at 2.

Breaking it apart it simply trading a future pick into this year. Everyone wants to do that. And it doesnt help them with Tauru. Or more specifically it doesnt help them get the Viking at the better price.
Yes they pick him at 2

We don’t think he’s the number one player or in the swap of picks we agreed we wouldn’t bid on him. Might be something else but at the end of the day he gets to Brisbane even if we select him.

Did we not already help them enough by giving them a massive amount of points for pick 20? Now we are comfortable with the idea of also making it easier for them to draft Marshall as well as Ashcroft. Back to back grand finals n reigning premiers in the year that we managed all of 2 wins yet it's fantastic that we're bending over to assist Brisvegas to get even better while we scrounge up a crumb or two of their leftovers.

Thank you

Can't rebuild your list in one draft , no team wins flags with everyone the same age and you also don't want all your best players coming out of contract or being free agents at the same time -another top 5 or top 10 pick next year will still be very handy, in fact it's virtually a must.
Disagree.
Drafting 8 blokes the same age, or only 7 wont affect list mgt or a chance at a flag.
Most clubs dont get 8 picks in a year. It doesnt normally happen, but it doesnt stop premierships.
There was one club with 5 drafted in the same year, but the other end of the drafts. But then Butler, Short, Castagna Lambert and Soldo were champions.*

Contracts we can manage. There will be varied lengths of contracts. No stress.

Get the best kids in. If it this year great.
If we get a super deal, then great.

*actually I'm thinking Butler and Soldo didnt play in a flag together. Whatever point stands

Yep. I think that one's been batted to the fence several times now on this thread hasn't it ?

Yep. And if they just trade F1 into 2024 and do nothing else, then they're not just reaming themselves once, but twice.
Exactly. But at this point they must be desperate to do something. If they dont trade they can get a top end player and still feel like failures.

Odd thing is, all year they were linked to Trainor. Top 3 pick, best defender, family link. Could get him now with 20.
Sure his head knock risk.
But get their man with 20.
And get a Larkey partner with 11. Winfreakinwin.
And they can sell that to their suffering miserable dirtbag supporters

As I said previously, why would two teams making a deal prefer to throw points down the drain ( difference of points between bidding at pick #1 and pick #2) than strike a deal that uses those points? Tigers obviously thought it was a good deal and did the trade. We can argue the deal but we accumulated low draft picks last year with this plan in mind.

It highlights how that proposed trade doesnt help them.
If they dont get extra value out of 2 and have to pick Tauru at 2 its a fail
Less of a fail than accepting 10 & 11 and not getting Tauru if that's who they're desperate for. It's a tough position for North. Feels like they didn't think through this very well.

Why?

If they trade their F1 for say a teens pick and then take Tauru at 2, that is no major difference at all to the deal that was around of 2 and F1 for 6 and 11.

They still get Tauru and it would just depend on how good the pick they got for the F1 was

Is there a pick where Trainor becomes a risk worth taking? Very highly rated all year, the concussions are a very big concern though
