2024 Draft Thread

2006 Jack Riewoldt (pick 13)
2007 Alex Rance (pick 18)
2008 Tyrone Vickery (8) traded for Shai Bolton who was traded for 10 & 11 in the 2024 draft
2009 David Astbury (35)
2009 Dylan Grimes (pick 2 PSD)

That's how it's done, one or two talls a year and things start to take shape.
Nick Reiwoldt was pick 1 in 2000 and Buddy and Roughy were 5 and 2 in 2004 as well 😁

Premiership key forwards recruited by trade or FA in more recent relevant years , Daniher , Cameron , Kennedy , Lynch, Brown and though McStay didn’t play in the flag he helped get them there

Most imports will be looking for premiership window opportunities, it would be a tough sell for any key position forward to land at a club with no support. We're two down, I can't recall anytime in AFL history a bottom 4 team has snagged two key forwards through trades.

By that logic Lalor is a mid first rounder & Lindsay is a late first rounder. But if you want to know the truth, I'm bullish on Tauru because he's still growing and his set shot kicking is much better than advertised. I also think his floor is still AFL quality defender, I can't see anyway he doesn't make it to be honest. There's a sniff of Naaughton about him and his phenomenal leap will surely get put to good use.

My contrarian thoughts about Smillie & Draper have already been posted but in summary, I think Smillie could go the way of many key position sized mids, that particular group is textbook boom/bust, the reasons range from the manchild effect, a lack of groundball game, decreased agility and a lack of contested marking ability. Draper isn't a good kick in my view so I wouldn't be risking an excellent key position prospect for a player who can't deliver with precision.
Disagree on Lalor. He has been in the number 1 position pick discussions since June/July. However I agree with you on Lindsay.

I am not saying Tauru won’t be a good player. But I believe he doesn’t represent the same value for the mids we could get a 6 or 7.

Sponsors night at the club re Draft strategy, so they'll be some whispers via the media soon I’d imagine

Could've just been a number used in the context of getting a message across to the group SOJ and not so much being a definitive statement that we will take 8 from the draft.

Who knows.
Yeah I think it's that. Everyone knows we have 8. Either way it will be quite a lot.

Naw it’s a slip. Didn’t need to happen but *smile* it made me laugh.

From Code Sport, not sure if already posted.

“Carlton could swing an early draft surprise as the Blues weigh up selecting South Australian midfielder Sid Draper with their No. 3 pick.

It is understood that Draper met with the Blues on Friday, with any potential play for him set to have ramifications down the order.“

WOW…. Not surprised. 😉

Stan

So we're trading a pick and Caesar is about to start taking training notes from inside the room with a clipboard in the corner? I might take that deal
