2024 Draft Thread

Blokes like Ashcroft n Daicos are easily ranked as best pick in the draft, yet so called reluctance to waste 30 seconds calling them inevitably results in their clubs getting them far cheaper than just the 20% discount. Guess fans n clubs should then just STFU instead of spending years moaning about how unfair the F/S or academy systems are n how much advantage is gained by some clubs.

The only time a club " wants " a player or " feels they're a genuine chance " of landing one of these types is by over rating and bidding for them way ahead of expectation. Extremely rare stupidity is gunna see that happen.
Must call Ashcrofts name #1.
1. Retains integrity of the draft.
2. Makes Brisbane pay as fair as possible price for him.
3. Puts less industry pressure on our selected player at #2.

One Whitlock & Faull would be a great start, I also like Sims for that third tall vacancy.

Bully,

What do you make of Draft Central having Matt Whittock's ceiling as Elite compared to Jack's above average?

I have seen neither play, which one would you pick?

I'd be tempted to go one key forward and then Matt in the 20's as he is somewhat of a swingman and can play back or forward?

Athletic Matt Jack
Aerial: Above average Elite
Agility: Elite Average
Endurance: Average Average
Speed: Above Average Average
Strength: Below Average Above Average

On Field
Ceiling: Elite Above Average
Consistency: Average Above Average
Contested: Below Average Above Average
Disposal: Average Average

Jack has the better goal kicking technique, he would be my first preference but Matt could feasibly improve that area of his game as we've see with Ben King. I draw quite a few parallels with those two in this instance. Plenty of upside for Matt, maybe even more versatility, he would still be a solid pick in the event Jack gets snapped up early.

2 of Faull, J Whitlock or Armstrong for mine.

With Gray, Bauer, Fawcett as well, that's a decent 6 to be developing with.
Then Lynch, Kosi and Lefau.

We've got some young blood, old bods and tweeners.

On the bidding for Ashcroft issue. If we bid for him what do we lose? What do Brisbane then give up by matching our bid? What do Brisbane give up if no-one bids on Ashcroft in the first round?
We don't lose anything
But if Brisbane didn't get those picks off us for pick 20, they would be in minus points not only this year but next year too.
We helped them.
We could've not traded for pick 20 and made a bid on Ashcroft.
They would've got Ashcroft bit might’ve missed out on Marshall and had no picks next year till they 2nd or 3rd rounds.
That's my understanding how it works

WIth so many picks I've found myself reading mock drafts - and often going - yeah nah, that's not who I would select for us. The two players that many mocks send our way are Trainor and Dodson. I don't want either, the former due to the concussion risk, the latter because I'd rather bring in more developed rucks.

I definitely have preferences for some players over others, but actually I'd be happy with most top 25 ranked players. e.g. Reid is one I would be happy with, but not with an early pick. I'd be happy with Jagga, Draper, Langford, at 6, but not at pick 1 or even 2 (i.e. I'd rather have Lalor and FOS if we had 1&2).

I'm interested in hearing about any top 30ish ranked players that PRE'enders would prefer not to draft with our current batch of picks?

Will give our picks a crack -

1 - Sam Lalor

6 - Jagga Smith (Think he gets through as I think Melbourne will take Langford or Smillie)

10 - Harry Armstrong (I believe he slides and will still be available here)

11 - Murphy Reid

18 - Jack Whitlock

20 - Jesse Dattoli

23 - Kayle Gerreyn

24 - Trade

Thought lolnorf were after 2 picks in first round 2024 for their pick 2 nothing less
Not pick swap with crows for 4 F1
IMO lolnorf playing games for pick 2
There is talk that in that scenario they will use the future pick to try and get another first round pick this year. I wonder who Adelaide are keen on as Draper would almost definitely get through to their pick 4.
