2024 Draft Thread

There's a clear 1, it's Finn O'Sullivan aka Vontae O'Cotchin. We'll be able to get him with pick 2 and if we *smile* it up heads should roll.

St Kilda the danger. West Coast still have home games against them, Hawthorn and Norf to come. Saints have a home game agsinst West Coast too.

I reckon we'll be up against it to beat Hawthorn in a couple of weeks, even if it is Dusty's 300th. And then we have our annual loss to Norf at the Dump later in the year.

Vontae is ours to lose. Let's not.
We won't lose on the goats 300th.

What is worst case scenario for drafting this year.
Just say we win 6 games and finish 3rd last with the North mid forward leaving .

Then Baker Graham stay.
How do we get pick 10,16,etc from blues,Brisbane, gcs.

Our picks 30,40 41 is 2031 points,is this enough to get pick 10(1590 points).

Freo trouncing Melbourne blew out that 2nd Rd pick.

1st Rd: 2

2nd Rd: 20

2nd Rd: 31

3rd Rd: 38

3rd Rd: 39

3rd Rd: 49

4th Rd: 56

4th Rd: 64

4th Rd: 69

My anger at the northern academies is at boiling point ,imagine making finals and guaranteed of getting a top 5 kid ,Lombards looking like a jet.

Gcs sun's say it adds to the pool.
But u only pay a fraction with a discount and u thukers have 10 or more academy kids on your list all 1st rounders.
AND U STILL STOLD MELBOURNES ONLY ACADEMY GUN,MAC ANDREWS.
RULES ALL SET UP FOR NORTHERN ACADEMIES.

Reminder on Josh Treacy - The guy Leysy was ridiculed for by @Scoop for suggesting a straight trade for Bakes if he chooses to leave.

18 disposals
12 score involvements - match high
11 marks
5 marks on lead - match high
3 goal assists - 2nd in match
3 goals

At 21 years of age is quickly becoming one of (if not) the best young key forwards in the country.

Yes please.

In a win by 90 points. Flat track bully and he is the third banana behind Jackson, Amiss and maybe even fourth Fyfe.

The role Leysy. Can he be number one forward in a good side? Is he getting the best defender.

Look at the last three weeks since our game, 10 touches 1 goal a week.

Has kicked 21.4 this year. Not sustainable.

Give me picks.

Flat track bully? lol. Reckon you need to watch him more closely.

If you can pick a key forward in this draft that will have his output by 21?

With his projectory? Am all ears.

If Bakes leaves am keen to see your selection at the pick we get compared what Treacy delivers.

So you'd rather that Mold Coast remains like a #Lolnorf for another 30 or 40 years n maybe Gee Whizz can be like a StKiddenme for another 50 or more years. Hell why not make sure that Taswegia is like Fizzroy for twenty years n then we can ship them off to the Territory so that they get a turn at having a team for a while as well?
Might be a few to many advantageous fudges going on to help establish these new clubs initially but there's only one way to create a truly proper national comp that can succeed and that's what's being done. AFLHQ is already looking at re-balancing all the draft and academy fudges a bit so things level out over future years.
We could always go back to shifting a couple of those *smile* Melb based clubs interstate ( as was done to Sth. Smelb. and Fizzroy ) to where nobody really wants them instead. The Territory might accept #Lolnorf even though no-one else wants them. How about that other mob that can't win games goes to Tassie instead of building a brand new side? Pretty sure them moth eaten old Tigers have got a decent Tassie heritage n some of their champions are gunna be involved with the new Taswegia anyway. Reckon we'd slot right in within a year or two, get some handy bonus draft picks n bounce straight back into premiership mode.

It's simply to late damage done, from 2025 onwards they simply will add 1,2 guns instead of 4 ,5 yearly and yes a side must earn its success instead of throwing so many picks at them that blind Freddy couldn't miss.

No body could argue that gcs etc are paying anywhere near the correct value for top 20 kids.

I'm a big fan of Treacy and have been watching him closely. Might have been easily gettable when the Dockers traded in Jackson and with Amiss showing promise.

I'd do the Bakes trade with Treacy is a heartbeat.

  1. The Luke Jackson SCOOP

The Big Kahuna from Cohuna - Josh Treacymight be worth pursuing. A just turned 19 year old first year player who the Dockers stole in last years Rookie draft. He looks like being a ripper, has got a fair bit of **** in him too.

Its a no brainer for us to do it, and a no brainer for them not to do it. Only chance is if he misses his mums osso bucco.

If Bakes chooses to go to West Coast I'd like us to be really aggressive and go for the below sort of trades. I've estimated where teams will finish (Freo 4th,Pies 6th, Port 9th, Brisbane 12th and West Coast 16th to forecast picks out).

1st trade with Brisbane - Pick 7 for all our picks after our 1st 2 - Brisbane gain 271 points
2nd trade with West Coast - Picks 3 and 23 for Pick 7 and Baker

We end up with Picks 2, 3, 22 and 23 (if we get a good offer to get the latter 2 up we'd consider it, but otherwise we wait to see who drops)
If we have more spots, we pick out the best from our VFL or rookie players.

We take FOS and Jagga with our 2 picks.
