2023 Draft Thread.

Even after some particularly solid performances, they wouldn’t promote him.
Tough love being shown to teach him some lessons.
Just not sure what specifically they’re looking for.
We’re obviously all guessing work rate but it’s probably more about two way running which you could argue is the same thing. Yze will have been briefed
It's almost impossible to improve your 2 way running without un interrupted pre seasons which he hasn't had yet,the gut running will feel easier with a full proper afl pre season.

Not sure I'd ignore the talls all together, Logan Morris or Weckert would be good value here.

I'm not sure there is a lot of mids I'd be following over myself for at our pick.
Looking Twomeys power rankings it looks like we might have the chance at one of the rated rucks in Green, Goad or Edwards. But for me if Reid is on the board then he has to be picked. Not sure I am comfortable on spending a pick in the 20's for a ruck.

Anyone who has Duursma above McKercher isn't paying attention IMO. Common sense seems to have prevailed and after being a lock at 3 after the champs, then drifting to 4, he's back to a lock at 3 in most phantoms/ ratings whatever. (Personally I'd have him in front of Reid, but I do defer to the punditry in some part, and Reid is a gun). But I do like ZD a lot and he's a more than worthy 4.

That aside, if you lined up all the various rankings, what? Half a dozen of the bastards? There is huge variation after 15, and especially after say 22, both in the order and inclusion/ exclusion of players, huge. eg, Luamon Lual has appeared everywhere ffrom 22-39 to not appearing at all. I reckon there is a good player to be had at 29-33, and of course a total dud. I like a few.

After that, haven't seen his combine results, but based on Champs and Coates league, my boy Ollington at 40-odd, winning form is good form! Unless he was a snail, and he looked far from that to the eye, looks the goods at this pick. After that, Nick Williams, the forgotten man of the Suns Academy/ Allies (having taken over from Will Graham for that title), 191 quick and competitive defender, would be worf a shot late or rookie IMO.

It's line ball. Spook said it and he's right, Duursma has real Brendon Goddard traits. Kicks goals, takes hangars, elite skills.

Give me either and I'm happy.

Me too. But you've got pick 3, whose name do you call out?

My boys Chedda at 24 in Twomey's and 29 in that amateur's attempt and Big George Stevens (28 and 21). I have a sinking feeling we'll just miss both.

Depends what you need. If you have a stacked midfield, Duursma. If you're us, I'd lean to McKercher.

Looks like Norf will take both. I can't see them trading up to 1 as they don't want to lose anything other than their later picks.

If you were the Hawks, would you give up your R1 this year and next for Reid? I reckon they'd consider it. Perhaps they get Curtin, but I reckon defensively they are developing but are ok. They probably need some of that dynamism in the forward half and for West Coast that will probably be Pick 5 and another pick between 5 and 10 next year. Maybe a bit of swing of other picks, but would you consider it if you were either of those teams?

Twomey and Beveridge get all giddy headed at this time of year - trade, draft...

Fair enough. It would have to be bloody stacked, and even then i personally wouldnt, id trade out someone, but fair enough. But my top 3 is Jw, cm, hr. I think all 3, and duursma, will all be stars, and the only 4 I'll be shocked if they aren't, but that's my pecking order.

You've watched them all more closely than me, mate.

I honestly love Duursma, apart from the obvious, big tick from me for testing at the combine. Been a clear trend over the last few years for the top 5-8 to strategically not test. Zane stepped up and killed it. Sign of good character IMO.

Lance Collard.
Fast medium sized forward
That loves tackling

**rumour freo are trying to move up the draft to get this kid because he may not be a top 5 pick but experts have him as a Bolton/Bobby Hill Type.
