2023 Draft Thread.

Happy there’s no more rebounding defenders or wingers or small forwards. The attempt’s been made at least to address some gaps. Just not sure I’d have gone with those particular players. They could be ok but really liked Simpson. We’ll see.

West Coast look like they have really nailed some later selections.

Archer Reid
Clay Hall
Harvey Johnston

Not a bad hall to complement No.1 pick Harley.
Yep love what the Eagles did tonight, same with Freo.

So we ended up with 2 players and more picks than we started with. That's got to be winning the draft.

I think we did alright seeing Reid, Morris and Edwards all went before our picks. We avoided the flankers which we have loaded up on recently and went for a genuine mid and a key forward. Hopefully the AFL don't change the Academy rules now and we use all of those late picks next year to upgrade our hand.

I have said this before, and I'll say it again, I reckon change of coach changes the types of players we're telling our recruiting staff we want to build our side around. I don't think there's any coincidence we've change the type we want, even though a KPF this deep in the draft is a long shot to make a big impact at AFL level.

We recruited players for Dimma's game plan. Now we want to go up the guts. I think there'll be more of an emphasis on trying to win the ball first, and smart users of the footy with Yze. 1 draft, let's see what they do with the nuclear stockpile in 2024.

Can't be too disappointed given we picked guys that we have a need for plus what will be a very handy boost.

Time will tell as always with out picks, both odds against to make it (like all selections around that area).

But we do have a very good record late on.

Finally, Leysy's prediction.

Shaun Mannagh to play 20 games next year with the media and supporters astounded he was over-looked in so many drafts and everyone lauding Stephen Wells for doing it again.

And right under our noses for a couple of seasons.
What didn’t we see?
