2021 Draft Thread

Goater if he slides is a steal! Coached him at u13 Interleague and followed his progress all the way thtough. His kicking is far from poor a massive upgrade on a wing.
The other I like is Paul Curtis in the forward line plays like Lacras, in the midfield plays like Pendlebury. Always knows where the ball is going (freakish).
So one or two of the mids- Sonsie, Taylor, Butler or Howes.
Goater if he slides and maybe Curtis.
Go Tigers
Goater's DE was 85% this year, 2nd in the comp, so you are entirely correct that his kicking woes have been overblown. Endurance is the only aspect that concerns me, but then again we've built tanks before so I expect we can do it again.

I might be in the minority here but im not in favour of trading up by over paying
Happy to give up Richmond F2 + #28 but no more

Johnson i do like but when we have passed on him twice and the 2 WA teams have passed on him 4 times along with the rest of the clubs also taking into consideration we have a great scout in WA this tells me Richmond are not into him inside #25

There is enough talent in an area we need to hold our cards and take best available on our board, There could be more bolters that give us choices of 4-5 players and we could take 3 or trade out 1 pick into 22'

Im thinking our list managers have our potential players listed and will stick to that and im thinking we dont rate Goater/Johnson highly and wont select them even if we trade up. Lets not throw out assets for players that have been by passed 20 times.

whoever spliced his highlight reel must have wanted him to slide.

Ned Long is an intriguing prospect. plays on the ball, but like Tom Lynch.
Most of the highlights packages are from the trial games, he missed a few targets but from my manual calculations his KE was hovering around the 60% mark. Now there's a few caveats here, firstly most of his kicks were from clearances where he was dominant and they often came after blind turns, accelerating from congestion or missed shots on goal, one being a snap from memory. Only a couple of clangers, probably on par with the other mids including Hobbs. Watching those games I didn't notice shoddy disposal too much, more a player with electric movement & a thirst to take on the game. He moves like a panther, I like him a lot.

I agree, I like Johnson as well but there is obviously some minor concern for him to drop. If we keep our picks, the inner sanctum still has us getting Goater, Taylor and Howes with Butler going next. If we got that sort of outcome I would be happy

I think the issue with Goater is he sees himself more as a half back than mid. Feels like he has more time to better execute his kicking.

Cant wait for the melts here when Richmond trade #26 + F2 for Norths #22 and #27+#28 for freo's pick #21

#21 - JAKE SOLIGO
#22 - JAMES WILLIS

For a player new to the midfield I think it's reasonable to expect a few shanks here and there but I see him as a midfielder in due course. However part of his appeal is that his floor is decent, if we unearth a wingman instead of an inside bull then no harm done. It only becomes an issue if you have spent a top ten pick, in which case you are paying for midfield service.

Individually I think the players are fine but it all comes down to the best mix & the best bang for the buck at each pick. I don't think I've ever gone with a flanker in the first round, not even Vlastuin & I suppose that's the point, from a strategic point of view I think it's always better to cover the most important positions on the ground first. It's a midfielders draft so I expect some mids in the mix. It's not a fail yet in any case, plenty of talent left and we can still make hay.

With all due respect Bully, we can say we like a pick (or not) and chew the fat on a forum, but it won't be a fail tonight even if we don't take any midfielders.

It will only be a pass/fail in time. No-one will know tonight. Not you, or even Leysy.

Pretty quiet on the Western Front.

If we can’t trade up, wouldn’t be surprised if we actually trade a pick out and just use 4.

I had Matt Clarke sacked, then knighted

all in the space of 15 mins after pick 17.

we can pass them, we can fail them, or we can do both

I'm considering giving myself a corner office, with a bar, and a $200k pay rise

The pass gets awarded for 3 core players, 60% strike rate is the bar, so you are correct in that we need to lock the time machine and come and revisit in 5 years time. I will give my thoughts on the overall composition of players, that to me is important in the context of rating the collective. There's still clearly potential for this to be a blockbuster draft, there's 6 players on the board who could be A graders in my opinion so it might well turn out to be a superb blend, we'll just have to wait & see. My thoughts on Gibcus as the lead pick is overwhelmingly positive as it really set us up to focus on the midfield, I don't mind Brown as I had him as a potential pick 28, so it just becomes a case of filling in the midfield roster from here.

Rapt. If we could somehow get Howes instead of Taylor I'd do naked cartwheels down the main street of Mullumbimby on Monday.

Riley Beveridge after speaking to clubs today reckons hes been told there will be a lot of trades - even though none have actually filtered through during the trade period pre Draft.
