2021 Draft Thread

No one mentioning Roberts or Browne in the next round?
I think Browne is very good value, his production is near the top of the class & his work ethic is outstanding. Skills could do with a tidy up but he knows how to find the ball. The fact he took out the Colts B&F from 13 games is a remarkable achievement, uber consistent & the type who can play a big role in an emerging midfield. I'm not a big Robert's fan to be honest, I just see another Constable or Hately.

He's as safe as houses for a long AFL career, it's looking like Freo & Hawks are the big winners as I'm tipping Sonsie to Glenferrie.
Both predictions are almost certain although after last night, can’t be certain about anything.
Feju, Howes and Knivett to get through to our picks would be an excellent result from this point.

Any predictions as to where Charlie Dean gets picked up?
Magpies interested but Cats love a state league option. I think he's surplus to our requirements but was in the frame if we went with a mid at 9. Nothing wrong with our approach in taking Gibcus however, I think with GWS reaching for Alleer we've opened in a strong manner with that first pick. I would have also been fine with mid at 9 and JVR at 17, that was a good combo too.

He's just a little more polished than KMac, I think he's a much greater marking threat & should have a bit more scoreboard influence.
A mile more polished. Would be a vast upgrade. Think Andrew Embley on a wing.

I just thought if he was taking aim at my Williams/Bytel trade as being fictitious then the irony would be breathtaking, the serves I copped 3 years ago about this suggestion was one of the primary reasons I left the site. Now if there's an inference I'm making *smile* up then I honestly give up. All documented, complete with poisoned barbs from all angles.

Trades - After securing Riley Collier-Dawkins last night, list managers approached the Western Bulldogs and offered them next year's first for pick 27 & pick 37 (a pick they were using on Rhylee West). Dogs accepted given it was a free hit next year & they also get West.

Pick 20. Riley Collier-Dawkins (rank 18)
Pick 27. Bailey Williams (rank 11)
Pick 37. Jack Bytel (rank 27)
Pick 38. Jack Ross (Ess pick for Saad last year)
Pick 58. Fraser Turner (rank 29)
Pick 62. Tom McKenzie (rank 33)

This whole drafting kids caper even the very best that get paid very well make mistakes and dont always have all the answers.

Clearly your really passionate about the juniors and it provides a huge % of us some really great content and discussions, hence the 4-500 odd pages..

Not sure how you can rate it a fail. Whilst we are all wanting the next gun mid sometimes you just need to take stock and get the best player available. I think we have done that so far. We could do that again.
Individually I think the players are fine but it all comes down to the best mix & the best bang for the buck at each pick. I don't think I've ever gone with a flanker in the first round, not even Vlastuin & I suppose that's the point, from a strategic point of view I think it's always better to cover the most important positions on the ground first. It's a midfielders draft so I expect some mids in the mix. It's not a fail yet in any case, plenty of talent left and we can still make hay.

To get Freo's pick 21 we give picks 29 and 30 for their pick 21 and 53

To get Norf's pick 22 we offer them their 2022 2nd round pick and the remaining pick 28 for 22 and 37

I don't think Freo will trade. I'm expecting them to take Johnson.

I'd be all over that North trade though. Sonsie is absolutely worth it IMO. If we can then get MacDonald or Howes with our other 20's pick, we'd have done very well. Then just take whoever falls to that Pick 37.

Cheers mate, I do tend to get a bit nervy around this time, nothing ever goes exactly to plan (or at least as I see it) but we're still doing ok. I'll certainly be reserving judgement until after the draft is done. There's still some good possibilities so here's hoping we've got the next Shai Bolton lined up.

No to both.

Goater if he slides is a steal! Coached him at u13 Interleague and followed his progress all the way thtough. His kicking is far from poor a massive upgrade on a wing.
The other I like is Paul Curtis in the forward line plays like Lacras, in the midfield plays like Pendlebury. Always knows where the ball is going (freakish).
So one or two of the mids- Sonsie, Taylor, Butler or Howes.
Goater if he slides and maybe Curtis.

Agree totally and why I really like MacDonald. Reckon he's the most obvious clearance mid in there.

A lot want Goater, but for me he is a high risk pick. Sure he is talented but hasn't sewn up a mid position this year and if he plays on the wing, half back, half forward then his kicking deficiencies hurt him too much. Could be a major bust IMO.

MacDonald is a proven high accumulator and strong in the clearance.

I like McDonald too. very high CP rate.

No to both.
Browne is 37 in my rankings so he's not in the frame for our picks, he would be perfect if we trade up and receive a junk pick. Browne & Dittmar are the two value mids from the third round onwards.
