2021 Draft Thread

FWIW i have a good friend who is Hawthorn Coterie. He told me this morning that the Hawks like Dan Butlers brother a lot and he is expecting them to take him

I like both Butler and Sonsie and would love one to be available at our picks. If the hawks take Butler, maybe that reduces the chance they take Sonsie as they are similar types?

I would be very surprised if Howes isnt high on our wish list. A potential missing link to our forward line as that hybrid medium forward. Also has the potential to play in other areas of the ground that Clarke loves.

At 190cm he could easily grow another 2-3cm and be that dangerous lead up forward.

Tend to agree, but could be the same reason I think Hawks might take him, long term replacement for Gunston if he grows another few inches.

Howes is surprisingly nimble at ground level, one touch player. I think we could do a lot worse with our remaining picks.

As has been posted before, Clark seems to be selecting to fit an existing type. eg Balta for Rance, Dow for Shedda. To me Gibcus seems a taller Grimes.

So do we currently have a medium link forward? Since 2017 we havent. Even the Caddy and Townsend games we were playing them as deep marking forwards.
Just doesnt seem to be the player type that we select.

Subplot, Port traded up to get Sinn based on Essendon taking Sinn. Essendon moved into Hobbs, if Sinn is on the board for Essendon, I reckon we get Hobbs.

100 % mate didn't work out but there was some method to Leysy's madness.

I wouldn't mind upgrading KMac's position to be honest, I can see Howes in that role and doing well.

Reports around that us and Hawks are very keen to deal with Freo to get the first pick tonight and nab Johnson. If true it's hard to see how we could outbid the Hawks given both their next picks are before ours.

Good call Leysy, it takes a special type of inside mid to crack the top 10, I don't think Hobbs is quite in the upper echelon. I think his inside credentials are a fair way behind guys like Selwood & Wines, his contested possession ratio not as mind blowing as previous first round candidates, we're talking around 40% based on NAB league games, the elites are usually around 60%.

That's not quite the news I wanted to hear.

no, that was a response to a poster that is here to stir up trouble.
Nothing to do with you Bullus.
When your draft predictions are more accurate than those that pretend to be the experts on here that is definitely causing trouble

Don’t doubt the Hawks would be interested. Would have to be 3 seconds, 2 this year plus next years as well. Despite last nights treatment I still believe Johnson is going to have a great career.
Ouch.

Well, you could have said that about Shai too, sometimes there's sliders, Rance from memory went from certain top 10 pick to early second rounder. These things do happen & champion mids often emerge from this range. Merrett was also seen as too outside, I'm starting to see some parallels, Johnson is value the value bet from here.
Don’t forget mr fridge. He slid so far he’s still rolling

Interested to know where are you hearing this Ridley?

I expect the Hawks or Geesook to get the Freo pick if they trade it. We are more chance of getting the Norf pick

Love to grab Johnson, Sonsie or Taylor.I wouldn't discount us going for key forward also who is remaining out of key forwards.
