2021 Draft Thread

This is the play that could make this draft, we have gone in an unorthdox manner with a premium flanker, I didn't see that coming, but if Johnson completes the deal then it's A class ceilings across the board. I would package 26 & 27 together at this point.

surely Brown was there at 26?

Before people go into total meltdown (if they haven’t already), a few things about Tom Brown.

1. He has very good skills. Very tidy.
2. He has a good turn of speed and agility. Can take the odd grab.
3. Very good tank.
3. When I first heard of our interest, the view was that he had potential to move into the midfield and be a Shedda type replacement. He has a lot of the tools to be so.

For me, if there was a knock or area for development, it’s his inside game which he acknowledges himself as an area of focus.

But otherwise I think you’ll hear the club say they think he can play a different role to a hbf so stay calm.

I think a half back flanker is the last thing we needed. Really disappointed with Brown.

Let's not be too disappointed. Other clubs have passed on the same fancied players. We may have some idea to use him differently, or as
others have said - it's a chance to move Baker or Stack into the midfield (assuming fitness) and we are backfilling.

Brown doesn't strike me as ready to play next year though, not strong enough. So we must be thinking he was the best available player or something....

Two things are clear -

the Richmond Way is not conventional

we are doubling down on the hard-running, turnover machine that is the Richmond Way

Don't mind Brown. Wouldn't have thought it was a need but he's an excellent athlete with footy skills.
On reflection it’s a good selection. Kid looks to have the tools to play AFL.

We always said we will go best available.

Next 3 will address needs.

Firmly believe you dont use high picks on defenders or kpfs. You steal them from other clubs. We needed Hobbs and its going to come back and bite us I reckon.
We pinch him in 2 years time or JHF from the Kangas :))

Bizarre selection. Hope to be proven wrong. Clarke surely must not rate the midfield pool from here on in? And or rates Brown incredibly highly? You don't select a half back flanker without needing one this high in the draft at the expense of seemingly perceived by consensus more talent available

I'll go for this one.

Maybe our intel was that Brown wasn't going to be there, but some of our pool of midfielders we fancy will be.

Maybe they believe the gap between the remaining mids and the next tier down is small, or likely to be closed with development on an AFL list.
We're just guessing because it's a surprise. Have faith.
