2021 Draft Thread

Either we get Charlie Dean or Noah Pegoraro fills a hole.
This is why I'm totally fine with bundling a couple of twenties picks, there will be quite a few plug and play state league options down the order.

Agree this came up out of the blue, nonetheless, I wouldn't be using pick 7 (9), on him. If he was there at our 2nd (first round) pick sure, he seems to be always injured.
I totally agree and I am not sure how reliable this rumour is anyway. There was talk that Adelaide was taking him as well. A lot of guess work going on, some educated and some not.

That's a great guide.

If you look solely at that Knevitt and Goater are only just behind JHF, Daicos and Callaghan in terms of their attributes. The latter have 2 elite categories and 4 above avg. Knevitt and Goater both have 2 elite, 3 above average and 1 average. Tells me Knevitt is perhaps the steal of the draft if we could get him at our 20s picks. Only concern with him is whether he has the ability to put on the weight to match his height and gamestyle (contested) which will be needed to survive at AFL level

fair enough. all my kids left home and got 5000km away pretty much on their 18th birthday, entirely under their own steam, and none have moved home after 5 years.

sounds like it's me

I have assisted them financially to get to Richmond grandfinals regularly
I didn't leave home at 32! I was out the door and living with three girls in a share house in Carlton at 19.

But I had plenty of mates at the time and still made some poor life choices through lack of maturity and fear basically.

On my own interstate at that age? Nup, would've been too hard.

But then - although I played NBL level basketball (really - the equivalent of VFL footy before it became AFL) at an early age - I wasn't cut out for a disciplined athlete's life. I really don't know how these kids do it at all.

So - I probably have more sympathy for the sooks and the failures than I should.

Knevitt's kicking concerns me the most, aside from that he's an interesting prospect, his athletic profile stands out so there's decent upside if he can tidy up the disposal and decision making.

I dont think gaining weight would be an issue for Knevitt the kid has a good frame with broad shoulders , thighs and is not a twig at 81kgs already

Hahaha, the AFL clearly trying to conserve some cash.

Normal draft - hire out a hall at Crown
Covid draft - Hole the draft teams up at Marvel, and the draftees.................lets just tell them to meet us at the London, make sure someone gets there early to get a good table
Make sure they get home too.

Plenty of opportunity for some sly drinking by 18 year-olds at the London. They'll need escorts to the loos.

If available at our 2nd rounders i would grab him , He just has that powerful game that with good development he will have big upside and adds something we dont have currently with his marking and mid option.

Hobbs/Goater/Knevitt trio would certainly add another dynamic to our midfield

AFL Draft Central Ranking points (average per match)

1. Nick Daicos 136
2. Morgan Ferres 125
3. Connor McDonald 121
4. Zac Taylor 117
5. Cooper Murley 116
6. Joshua Browne 108
7. Jase Burgoyne 107
8. Hugh Jackson 107
9. Neil Erasmus 106
10. Lewis Rayson 103
11. James Willis 103
12. Blayne O'Loughlin 102
13. Angus Sheldrick 102
14. Arlo Draper 102
15. Josh Ward 101

* Johnson 93, Callaghan 87, Hobbs 86

Need to view these numbers with some trepidation, some players have been playing seniors so naturally they will have inferior stats. In any case it's a good guide as to potential bargains down the order.

Sheldrick is another player thats intriguing , He just looks a player determined to make the most of a AFL career

That's a really interesting list when you compare it to the top 15 in most mock draft lists. Chalk and cheese (as in cheese like the moon used to be made from).

If we go away from 2 mids at the 1st 2, its another indication that we need MacDonald with our later picks. I reckon he will be a very good AFL player.

I still don't know what to make of him, sometimes I get the Dermie waddler vibe but he's not a terrible athlete. Dane Swan would be the player I think you would want to emulate, big call but Swan was also a highly speculative type, much like Sheldrick who seems to have risen to every challenge, including doing a number on Horne-Francis.

McDonald has produced some outstanding numbers in drizzly conditions, this gains him some extra brownie points from my perspective. I think the difference between Hobbs & McDonald isn't as large as some would suggest, that's more reason to grab Johnson and then pick off the contested beasts. McDonald's kicking is also much more penetrating than Hobbs, I think he could be one of the bargains of the draft.

If Gibcus is there at 9, no chance his name is not read out by us.

Also means we don't have to reach for a tall later

Dream result may end up being

Gibcus, Hobbs/Goater/Sinn, Williams/Razzo, Butler/Sheldrick, Sonsie/Fejo

My preference

Gibcus, Sinn, Williams, Sheldrick, Fejo

How about something like this:

1. Horne-Francis (North Melbourne)
2. Daicos (Collingwood)
3. Darcy (Western Bulldogs)
4. Rachele (Adelaide)
5. Callaghan (Gold Coast)
6. Andrew (Greater Western Sydney)
7. Ward (Hawthorn)
8. Erasmus (Fremantle)
9. Hobbs (Richmond)
10. Amiss (Fremantle)
11. Gibcus (St Kilda)
12. Johnson (West Coast)
13. Wanganeen-Milera (Essendon)
14. Draper (Port Adelaide)
15. van Rooyen (Greater Western Sydney)
16. Sinn (Brisbane)
17. Sonsie (Richmond)
18. Goater (Sydney)
19. Butler (Melbourne)
20. Fahey (Greater Western Sydney)
21. Knevitt (Brisbane)

Only one genuine mid though, that would be going against the grain of this draft.
