2021 Draft Thread

Sonsie, Butler and Murley are all quick, classy mids who could begin as small forwards.
Agreed. These 3 have great traits. I'm still big on Sonsie.
Mix them up with Bolton and we have a dynamic mozzie fleet that can play onball and in attack.

Not forgetting that we will have Dusty to play more forward

Agree - not sure where this reputation for being an elite kick has come from? I've not seen any evidence to support it.

Think because he can kick on both feet people think it automatically correlates to being a good kick.

As we know not always the case. They might be bad on both. :D

Agree Taylor's only OK by foot. Not a huge fan, tough to make it as a mid at his size without genuine toe and lacks that yard for a small forward. He can find the footy though and has a decent step. Depending on who we take earlier might be OK with one of our second rounders.

I didn’t think his kicking was anything special in those games either. He’s obviously quite sound, but in those higher level games it didn’t look stand out special to me.

Neat skills but small, light and not that quick either. A lot of his kicks are short dump offs as well.
Taylor or Murley? Agree if you mean Taylor.

Well, Shed is another 4cm taller and Shai has the small forward bow to his arsenal - Murley doesn’t have either. In fact, where the latter is concerned, he’s on record as saying he’s struggled a bit trying to play that small forward role at Norwood where they’ve obviously tried to introduce him into reserves football.

Having said that, he at least has some pace and reasonable skills on his side.
True. Shane and Shai are stars of the game. I see Murley as closer to Nathan Foley, less nuggety and perhaps not quite as explosive but a better kick.

I'm talking about our fifth pick. He's a favourite of mine but if we already have Sonsie and Butler in the bag someone like Bazzo or Williams, or alternatively Clarke, Jones or Fejo might be a better fit.

Taylor has an extraordinarily high pick up prior to his ball drop. There are pics of him with the ball raised to head level. He won't get away with that in the big league.

So don’t forget it
its just a silly stage I’m going through
And just because I call you up
Dont get me wrong, don’t think you got it made
I thought I was on the Music Association thread for a second there :)

Look out Spookers going soft on his man Murley already!!!

Here is another mock draft from a couple of hours ago, still listening but so far has us taking Hobbs at 9 and Josh Sinn at 13, (after trading pick 17 & 30 to Bombers).
Why on earth would we contemplate doing that pick upgrade with the bombers? Prefer Sonsie at 17 & keeping 30.

Sonsie is the must grab at 15. He really could a top 5 player from this draft but there is risk. If we can get Ward or Hobbs at 9 then it minimises the risk around Sonsie.

That's a slight exaggeration, his kicking is fine, his efficiency is comparable to Sonsie, both similar types although Sonsie the better option given he has the pace. I think you will find they get picked around the same mark.

Taylor.

Think it’s a moot point with Murley anyway. Stranger things have happened but I don’t see us using pick 28 on a Cooper Murley. Ditto a Charlie Dean and others. Only way they come into play is if we trade on the night and get left with picks in the 40’s and beyond which itself, would seem unlikely given we’re trying to move up and not out.

Sportsman's wager: Sonsie goes top 20, Taylor outside the top 25.

Sonsie probably goes at pick 17, I can't see us overlooking him, even with van Rooyen on the board. He will go to Hawthorn at the very latest. Taylor probably goes to Hawthorn if we take Sonsie, so we're talking 6 spots or so.

PS. I hadn't heard of Brady Hough before, here are some details:

Brady Hough

Peel Thunder/Western Australia | Midfielder/Utility

05/03/2003 | 189cm | 74kg

WAFL Colts: 22.1 disp | 3.5 marks

Hough came out of nowhere to dominate 2021 at every grade. He was one of Peel’s best in the Colts and made the most of his League opportunity in the last game of the season with 22 touches and nine marks, while also stamping his credentials with a strong State Championships. He’s plied his trade at either end of the ground but has done some of his best work as a wingman with good endurance, composure with ball in hand and a great set of hands. His rate of improvement has been enormous this season which will excite recruiters.

Best traits similar to: Will Hayward

Draft range: Second/Third Round

If we overlook Johnson for Sinn after making those trades I will be furious.
