2014 draft

1960's Name. Need more of them. Strong starting point. Sounds like a thug who worked on the docks in Port Melbourne.

But this Billy Evans, I like him a lot. Great size, hard at the contest, brutal style, tackles like a savage. Neat with the ball without being damaging. Clearance footballers at 187cm are the current flavour of the month, TAC team of the year, Vic Country onballer its a pretty compiling pace.

Think we can get him with a third round pick. Not sure he goes much higher. But if we went pace & class with our first then two genuine onballers I'd be stoked.

Pickett, Ahern, Laverde/ Blakely, Miller, Jordan De Goey (hear he is dropping into the second round, would take very happily.)/ Billy Evans type with pick 3. Something like that mix.

Cooling on Menadue Scoop? Reckon he might be available at our second.

Exactly my thinking. I reckon Pickett and Laverde will go before our pick, and I would add Weller, Duggan and even Garlett and Menadue to our first round options, given they probably won't last to our second.

De Goey in R2 would be incredible, but surely he goes before our pick. I have him in the frame for our first as well.

Not at all, just forget about him. He's in the mix. If I got pace first up, I might be inclined to go with inside ball winner second and then flip it either way with the third.

De Goey has gone out of fashion for some reason, it's madness. Hopefully he might be still on the board around our second pick. Still think Weller is the pick that Francis makes, he's everything that we value. Not my ideal pick but he is what we like.

So the suns are in love with Laverde & Weller, and hoping to take both with picks 7 &15. Reckon they go Laverde with 7.

What are peoples thoughts on Weller at our pick? His kicking is a thing of beauty.

Here's hoping D's score neither the PP or a high compo for Frawley, gives us one of Weller/ Duggan/ Ahern, and any one of these gives our midfield a major boost.

Sorry Scoop didn't see your post.

I've warmed to Weller. No outstanding traits other than he does everything well, and is a lovely kick. Interested to see how quick he is.

I'm convinced Lachlan Weller will be the pick.

The more research I do the more I think he fits Franks criteria.

Leadership- Captained the AIS.
Kicking - Close to the best kick in this draft.
Wins own footy- check
Above average pace- this will come out at the combine.

But he fits the Conca, Ellis, Vlaustin, Lennon mould perfectly.

His outstanding trait is his professionalism, has impressed just about everyone he's come in contact with, it's the reason I think he'll do very well at AFL level. I also think his skills are being sold a little short, he's one of the best kicks in the draft.

Can't see Weller getting past GC, they're pretty keen from what I've heard.

Reckon they'll be hoping he gets to their later 1st pick. More likely IMO that they'll pick Laverde at 7.

Forgot they had a later first rounder. You're right that's the more likely scenario.

Here's a possible 2nd round or later pick.

Alex Urban, Oakleigh Chargers

10. Alex Urban (Oakleigh Chargers) 179 cm 76 kg
Alex Urban is an unassuming and hard working midfielder who seems to have it all. Team mate Guy Dickson said Urban is a “really good ball winner” and “tough around the contest”. He’s really strong at the hips so he’s able to shrug off tackles.” Dickson also praised him earlier in the year in his interview with Bound For Glory News. Urban is a goal kicking midfielder who is classy and works hard. He’s very much an in and under player, but he still uses the ball well on the outside. He runs and spreads hard on the outside, and as a result he records plenty of uncontested marks and handball receives. He racks up the ball, is an excellent clearance player and is nifty around the goal face too when need be.

His post-2013 review looked good.

(See #10)

His 2014 stats look even better.

And he's not even listed in the top 20 TAC footballers. If that's not an under the radar, ....?

Anyone listening to the U18's GF - it's currently on SEN. Chargers are leading the Cannons 11 goals to 8 15 into the 3rd qtr.

Have only just turned on and don't know that many juniors, but those in the know might want to have a listen.

*Chargers by 36 at 3 qtr time.

Sinclair, Waddell, Pitmay(?) are the players who aren't considered the standout juniors who have put in a decent game so far.

If he is ever named as the substitute we can call him "SubUrban"!

Yes, I've been listening.

As expected, the Oakleigh Charger run and carriers have flooded the Calder defence and pushed it out to 36 points at 3/4 time.

Calder was massively hit by the withdrawal of Wright.

Ha, nice one!

Today, Urban, 179cm, proving himself to be an excellent inside extractor and distributor.

Highly fancied midfielder Paul Ahern, 181cm, proving himself to be the most effective Calder player.
Ben Allen, 178cm, getting the ball too but not doing much with it.

Toby McLean, 179cm, touted on radio as the player of the finals series.
Gowers, 184cm, provided good HB / W run.
Halsall, 177cms, proved good run from defence in first 3/4s, then moved into attack.
Houston, 184cms, kicking some lovely set shots in the last 1/4.
