2014 Draft/2014 Nat Champs

We could be putting a bid this morning for academy player Jack Steele. If GWS want him they will have to use their second pick on him otherwise we will take him with pick 11.

I rate Steele but not at 11. He has no pace and is not overly agile. Can run and has a huge tank.

But he is a contested ball machine and tackles hard. I think it is a round early for him to be taken. Second round is fine, this is a slight reach.

Reads very much like a Conca clone. Is the perfect Francis Jackson clone.

Was thinking I might be a bit cynical. One of the best players in the second tier under 18 comp and overage at that, sort of reminds me of Bling being a brilliant second tier junior. Just seems a bit of a stretch at pick eleven, but I'm not really any sort of follower of the juniors, so what would I know ;D

Just what we need, a Conca clone.

Hopefully if we end up with this one he gets a full pre-season in prior to the 2015 season ;D

At 23, this is a good pick for GWS.

They are mad keen to get Petracca. GWS will be looking to offload some of the Melbourne boys coming home to trade up with St Kilda to get pick 1. If St Kilda get Tim Membrey, they may hold the pick and take Petracca. That would make things real interesting for GWS. I then reckon they would look to trade back.

Nope. No hope.

Prefer Bampton, Blakley and Miller. Not convinced he has enough polish. Think a poor mans David Armitage.
Menadue now in the frame if we get pick 23?

50/50. But to get Trengove as well, it's a risk worth taking.

If it's not Menadue, we will get a good mid at 23. Maybe Blakley.

But the trade is worth it. Gives us midfield depth options.

We have the potential to fix up our midfield depth in one trade/draft period.

Trengove
Ellis/Menadue/Blakley
Gore/Drummond/Bullen

Connor Blakely for mine, a good midfielder who can win his own ball.

There's an article on the AFL site about Connor.

He goes ok, and can play inside and out.

I liked the fact that he makes keeping his feet a priority.

Ok so who do we go for with our first 2 picks ? Duggan & Garlett is my choice but if Laverde is there at 12 it is a no brainer.

Laverde is a lock for Collingwood at pick 5.

Who is going to be the sure thing top 20 pick, maybe even top 10 pick, who slides all the way to the rookie list ?

It's usually the big burly forwards who slip, Hourigan was the classic example last year. This year I can't see that happening, Clem Smith may drop due to a substandard combine but apparently has back issues, difficult to say where he'll land.

Tom Lamb is an interesting one, he's athletically gifted and has some superb tricks up the sleeve but is prone to inconsistency. He may drift out to a pick in the late 30's, early 40's.

Last year and the year before Garlett also slipped through until the Hawks offered a rookie spot. But you're right, often its big fowards that tend to slip beyond the comprehension of the BF phantomers and their disciples.

Garlett went at pick 38 in the main draft.

Dan Richo was interviewed on SEN this morning. I just caught the last half of it but he gave the distinct impression that we would be looking for an inside or well rounded type with pick 12 and would be aiming at outside run with the later picks.

Screams Ahern to me, Duggan & Cockatoo are very much outside at the moment. The guys who are in the frame for our second would be Menadue, Garlett & Daniel McKenzie.
