2014 Draft/2014 Nat Champs

Has wilkinson ever been mentioned on here.

Much like Cavka it's tough to predict where he'll go but he'll surely get drafted, his form at all levels has been particularly impressive. No stand out weapons but is an accumulator with an enormous tank. Has been playing in the shadow of Brayshaw but this may work in his favour, recruiters must be aware of him by now.

Screams Ahern to me, Duggan & Cockatoo are very much outside at the moment. The guys who are in the frame for our second would be Menadue, Garlett & Daniel McKenzie.
But is Ahern your classic inside mid?

Pick 12: Richmond – Liam Duggan

Position: Defender/midfielder
Height: 183 cm, Weight: 76 kg, DOB: 11/12/1996
Club: Western Jets
Projected draft range: 10-25
Plays like: Steele Sidebottom

A bubbly character off-field, the ‘baby-faced assassin’ is another draft prospect that is gifted in terms of poise, hurt factor and game-winning attributes. Duggan won the Ben Mitchell medal for this year’s AFL-AIS intake, and has an arsenal of weaponry that far exceeds most in this year’s draft crop. Playing in an array of positions, Duggan offers get-up-and-go from half back, is particularly dangerous around the stoppages, and loves to run and carry with his line-breaking speed. The talented left footer has also shown he’s dangerous and effective around goal, kicking three final-quarter goals against the Northern Knights earlier in the year from just four disposals in a come-from-behind win. Duggan’s penetrating kick is his primary asset, but his ability to read the ball well in the air – along with both good vision and speed – suggests his best position will eventually be situated in the midfield with resting stints at half back. Despite his slim build, Duggan can win his own ball and tackles strongly. Coupled with his rebounding and attacking style of play as well as his long left foot, Duggan would be a welcome addition to Punt Road.

No, but he's a well-rounded onballer with a decent inside game, it's one facet that he's improved upon immensely this season. If he's off the board then Duggan will probably get the call-up, Blakely another who would be in the frame.

Interesting that Paige considers Duggan's best position to be midfield, not so sure myself but time will tell. When he's tagged his game can really unfold, production halving as a result, the team usually suffering in the process. Will have to wait & see I guess.

You think we could take the punt on Blakely at 12? Big call.

He's the best of the inside mids IMO, although I'd prefer to leave that for the second round to be honest.

Lamb anyone ? Sounds good on the website that we can't mention but I too thought his carnival was ordinary.

need someone 80kgs plus...not enough hard bodies in the midfield.

This is as crucial draft for us as was 2004 in which we got wrong, we must find class kids in this draft who will fill holes in our current best 22, we must find skill an speed, the list we have wont win a flag however if we add 4 to 5 from this period with the core group we already have will be pushin top 4 in 2016, get this wrong an after next year we will just be hangin on to a finals spot as our guns begin to hit the wrong side of peak. Massive massive massive next 2 drafts an free agency periods

Any chance Lamb slides to our second pick?

I think there's every chance he'll be available, not so sure we'll select him though.

Hugely important but it's a good draft to be addressing the areas we're deficient in. Having such a huge pool of key position prospects means we can feasibly get the runnesr we need, much will hinge on our first pick though, unfortunately I can see a bit of a drop off from pick 12 onwards. If by chance Ahern falls into our laps we'll be in a strong position to grab a solid inside mid with 33, the SA midfield have some great prospects, but for one reason or another they have been greatly underrated.

He's a fascinating player. Really huge scope if he can put it all together. He's like an unrefined Mundy. Do you think he'll be a bit of a slider and if so why?

Agree about the SA mids. Neal-Bullen is really growing on me, would be a great get at 33 if Gore and Blakely are gone. Bampton another good one but I suspect he may slide a bit.

I haven't seen any of the kids Bully an I realise our need for mids, however If a player say like Durdin or another key slides are there any possibles to good to pass up on

Average carnival & most still don't know where he'll play in the long run. Worth a stab but I think we'll be looking at midfielders to be honest, can't say with any certainty that's where he'll end up.

Neal-Bullen has been the best of the lot at SANFL level, he's ready to play next year one would think. His sprint times were disappointing but as an inside midfielder these things don't overly concern me. His agility is good, his tank is big & he's strong enough to shrug off would-be tacklers. He just looks like a footballer to me, would be very surprised if he doesn't make an impression next year.

Big fan of Durdin, he's another who has fitted seamlessly into senior football, his ability to ruck is another huge bonus. If he was available I'd pick him up for sure, to me he's clearly a top 10 talent.

Even if he was, I'd pass.

Not taking a project at our second pick when we can get a mid which we need more.

And the mid will contribute more long term.

Saw the Lamb article on the AFL website this morning, grand son of Ian Cooper gives the kid a massive pedigree, poor bugger ;D. As with all juniors the highlights reel is obviously full of his good stuff n none of his stuff ups. Quality character that the kid recognises he didn't have a very good champs so put in extra work to make sure his work at the combine was first class.
I realise that we're more concerned with hunting up some more midfield grunt n pace but first thing I thought of when watching his clip was Norman Gunston from Dawkthorn. Mobilility, marking, ground skills, ability to finish n tank big enough for repeat efforts up n down the ground.
Some club with a couple of key forwards and a late first to mid second rounder are gunna top up nicely with this one I think.

Anyone know if and how Tuok Miller tested at the combine?

178cm, 82kg. Top 30% for vertical jumps, bottom 30% for the 3 sprint tests, top 20% for agility, 14/9 beep test and top 30% for the repeat sprints.
I think clubs would be pleased with his results.
