2014 Draft/2014 Nat Champs

Stylo said:
Possibly not, but I just love his attributes. If he puts it all together he'll be a bloody gun.

Played really well for the Allies so maybe that may be enough, will have to wait and see, he does have some excellent attributes.

I wonder if we have been keeping a close eye on Nathan Drummond from the Murray Bushrangers. He played from memory 3 games for our VFL team as the 23rd man. Overlooked in last years draft but that extra year it seems he has improved his game overall.

He has tested very well so far in the combine - 2nd in the standing vertical jump, 5th in the running vertical jump, 2.93 for the 20m sprint, 2nd overall for the repeat sprints and 3rd in the beep test at 15.9.

A good choice for our 3rd pick if he is still on the board.

Rough diamond. Definitely something to work with. Third round onwards. Bit of a poor mans Nathan Freeman.

First in the clean hands test & equal 2nd in the goal kicking test.

We should know him better than any of the other clubs with him having played some footy for our VFL team.

His game last week along with his combine results have increased his stocks dramatically.

Looks to be a gun in the making.

A combo of Weller/Gore or Weller/Cockatoo would be a good get.

Both Gore and Cockatoo may be well gone prior to our 2nd pick unfortunately.

Jarrod Garlett - 15.2.

This changes a lot for me. Goes from being a Jack Neade to Brad Hill.

I've been a massive fan since the Champs. Top-20 definitely I reckon.

I reckon your right but I have him between 12-30.

But that beep test is a huge perception changer.

Interesting that Clem Smith scored well in the kicking test.

I thought the knock on him was his skill level.

Clem is good at everything accept for endurance. Gut running is not his strong point.

Nakia Cockatoo - Get it done Tiges!! ;D

My gut feeling is that this kid will be a star!

Hope we consider using pick 11 - would be surprised if he was still there at 31!

Unfortunately I dont think we will see a Richmond player associated with the name Garlett.

Can someone explain how the kicking test woks? Do they have to hit a stationary target like a vickery or moving target like Gunston are they put under any pressure ?

It's a shame. He's one of a long list I'd really like at our second pick. Give me Cockatoo, Garlett or Smith at 31 and I'm doing cartwheels!

Anyone know what his sprint times were?

Thought this was really interesting regarding Neal-Bullen and backs up my initial thoughts.

Alex Neal-Bullen (Glenelg)
Born, 9.1.1996, 182cm, 77kg
AFL biography: Damaging Medium Midfielder particularly around stoppages uses his quick, clean hands to great effect. Key player in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships averaging 18.7 disposals (10.2 contested) and 4.2 tackles. Is a courageous footballer with elite endurance and has played senior football for Glenelg.
Brenton Phillips, SANFL: "Alex is an outside midfielder who can get hold of the ball, he has a bit of Trent Cotchin about him, some of the same moves. He didn't kick the ball as well during the national championships as I've seen him kick, but he was under instruction to clear stoppages and get the ball forward as quickly as he could, and that meant ramming it onto his foot and getting it out of there. His efficiency rating would be low because of that, but he can kick and he played some really good senior football at Glenelg this year and showed good leadership there. They were pretty ordinary this year but he was in there controlling stoppages and getting guys into the right positions."
