Scoop, what are your thoughts on Ahern from Calder Cannons. And if anyone else has seen him what are your views.

Yeah, looks pretty good. Has a lot going for him. Great in traffic, getting out and burning away from the pack. Seems to use it pretty well and seems to have time. Will go watch him a couple of times.

But if I had pick one, I'd take Christian Petracca. His carnival was spectacular and he showed he can be an impact on baller. Has some slight Dangerfields about him but I don't now if he will be that explosive. But his numbers, really stand out.

anyone watched Frank Watson from WA? clip/story on that site today. Great size and moves like michael johnson.

anyone?

Havent seen the kid, but ILHO the three things that hold vertically challenged kids from making it are -

- Strength over the footy.
- Kicking depth - and leysy's talking 55m+ comfortably.
- Elite pace and agility.

That isn't easy to possess all those things, but if they do there is no reason at all mark them down.

So on this kid, like say Dion Prestia - does he have them?

In one game of the champs I saw him play he kicked a goal from 50 and nobody could lay a hand on him all day.

I saw him. Fumbled quite a bit. Not key position size but played as one.

Was that the one against Country at Geelong, with a raging gale at his back?

Anyone know where I can watch the televised U18 CHamps games from this year online?

I had them recorded on Fox IQ to watch after the season finished and I've gone to watch it last night only to find out that my missus had set up a series link record for freaking Bold and the Beautiful and the hard drive was full of this crap and obviously wiped out my U18s recordings

Draft combine begins today at Etihad Stadium.

Shall look forward to the regular news.

I'm sure the AFL have locked up proprietary rights on all the info.

Can't wait, reckon the midfield runs deep in this draft.

Think you might be right, this draft is the closest thing to 2006 that I can remember, meaning it's laden with talls. The mids will therefore drift down the order, we can really set ourselves up here, particularly if we manage another pick in the top 30.

Yep. Most drafts are mid heavy at the top. With the talks pushing everyone back, quality will be around.

Even two extra picks between 25-50 will give us huge leverage to build the midfield.

Agree. especially the kicking penetration. Miles is a case in point. He has clinton king-like penetration by foot. Im presuming that why gws cut him loose? I'd add

-leap

Like Michael Mitchell. You can grow 3 feet real quick if you got a leap.

Prestia is 175. 175 is 3 inches taller than 167. Thats the difference between Brett Deledio and Richo.

If 195 puts you in the KPP column of the draft combine formguide, then 167 put you one out in the dwarf column.

Im sure the young bloke's got the heart of a lion and come from a great family. But theres the laws of physics and that.

I think 5 foot 6 is the new black in the AFL, and now we have lost Jake King we need another midget. There was a time when everybody was racing for the next 6 foot 2 and 90 kilo mid fielder, and no doubt this is still the modern prototype for the on baller.

But the big fear used to be the midget midfielder would get dragged forward and out marked by their tagger. With the modern zone, full team defense, it's not such a big deal. The midgets can hold their own because there will always be a team mate deep to drop off their man and help out.

And remember, physics works both ways. The difference between Deledio and Richo can work against you as much as it works for you. You wouldn't want Lids trying to out mark Richo in the forward line just as much as you wouldn't want Richo tagging Lids in the middle. As fast as Lids is, the laws of physics mean that his 85 kilos and longer levers will get rings run around it by a Lewis Taylor, or Neade or Ballantyne.

Get on board the midget train I reckon, it's the next big thing (boom tish).

Nakia Cockatoo looks an interesting prospect.

Could fill our need for speed .... wonder if he is on our radar and if he will be available at our pick?

I want him and Dillon Viojo-Rainbow

It would make our team sheet look really cool 8-

De Goey, Cockatoo and Viojo-Rainbow are all gettable :hihi

Touk Miller with a 3.06 in the 20 metre sprint. Dion Prestia did a 2.98 as a similar body type and size.

If Miller can run a 8 second agility test, he is right in the mix for our second pick. Why do I think this? This quote from Dan Richardson in the Hearld Sun.

"Our strategy is we are keen to improve the depth of our midfield. We’ll be investing pretty heavily in this year’s draft, hence we delisted seven players. We aim to have four to five draft selections plus some rookie selections.”

Connor Menadue with a 2.88. Rising very quickly. Menadue can win his own ball, with this pace result, he will be second rounder.
