Edwards close. Quiet first half but I thought he was our best player after halftime.

MATCH REPORT
by rokin.tiger

As I quickly entered my footy tips on friday afternoon my stomach began to feel weird.
Richmond were favourites. Carlton had everyone out. Everything seemed to good to be true.
I picked us, of course, whilst a little voice in my head said “we will find a way to lose”.

My Saturday started with rumours that The Mullet would be a late out. I threw my phone and continued to sleep in. Eventually the day went on and somehow found my way to the other side of town. Being an AFL member I’m usually stuck next to fat ignorant Carlscum supporters in the reserve, but much to my delight my uncle had scored us seats on Lvl 2 with fellow tigers in front, behind and side by side (this never happens).
As I sat down and took in the night sky I was in awe... the G was a sea of yellow & black.
My mood was instantly uplifted. It felt like a home game. Hey maybe this is our night.

There really is something that separates our club from the rest.

Here’s my quick recap of the game:

First -
Cotch on fire, 12 disposals, 2 goals
Demolition Dusty 3 goals
Carlton 3 goals from 3 frees
Umpires consistency is woeful

Second -
First qtr was too good to be true, as usual tiges don’t have a second qtr, scum put on tighter tags and we struggle dealing with them.
Video review?!!?!?!?!!?!? GTFO. If the decision is inconclusive it goes to the original decision of the goal umpire.
McGuane no disposals in the first half.
Grigg has he ever laid a tackle? Waves his arms around like his at a Justin Bieber concert.
Its not often a team wins after scoring 0.5 in the second quarter.
Umpires consistency even more woeful

Half time thoughts -
I know it looks all courageous to go into a contest head first but keeping your feet and having poise is much more highly regarded in my eyes.
Jack Dyer must be turning in his grave with this insipid sh!t.

Third -
Moore in the fwd line. Why?
Jack continues to arm wrestle in the pockets rather than lead.
Continue to bomb away into the forward 50 rather than work our way through the lines.
Kicking across goals. Kicking out of goals. Kicking into goals. Kicking in general. Pathetic.
What happened to “if you can’t kick you wont get a game” ?
Why persist with Demon rejects.
The usual opposition late goals. Over it.

Fourth -
Can we do it?
Rance - why does he continue to give away easy frees?
Plenty of lead changes in this last quarter.
Plenty of passengers on our list.
Tempo suddenly lifts and the crowd are on the edges of their seats. My stomach in my mouth.

We’re up. The Tiger Army is roaring. Blow the %#^%^ siren! When I saw it was the 34th minute surely the siren would be going any second. The monkey would finally be off our back.

No, says God. Cue Steven Morris. Cue desperation ball out of defence in the dying minutes. Cue rokin.tiger belting out every name under the sun as the ball sails out of bounds on the #@&%$ full. Cue the Déjà vu Tigers. I physically cannot type what happens next. After that it was all a blur. Martin tries heroically to win the game. Siren blows and so does our chances of a finals birth.

“There’s always next year” say the 40,000 zombies filing out of the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

For someone who couldn't attend the match last weekend, I think rokin's report gave a great concise summary of the mood. I did manage to watch the match on TV and the less said the better. 3 close losses on the trot from winning positions to snuff out all but the most inconceivable mathematical chance of finals is not good for the psyche.

The loss also clearly affected the PRE voters as well as many chose to stay away from the polls, electing not to reward any players for another late capitulation. Of the 37 voters that did cast their ballot, Shane Tuck was again rewarded as the best Tiger afield, the 5th time he has achieved that honour this season. Not bad for a player consigned to the scrap heap for much of the past couple of years. Trent Cotchin and Dustin Martin also featured in the polls, mainly for their brilliant first quarters, kickng 5 goals between them and racking up a ton of possession. Stringing 4 quarters of that quality together will be hard for oppositions to stop and that must be the next step if the Tigers are to see improvement.

This week sees Richmond head out of Melbourne to play Brisbane, which should be an interesting match. I'll be watching the game on TV with a couple of Yanks that have never watched a game before. Should be interesting!

Carn' the Tiges!
