1 vote was a dead heat between Cotchin, Grigg, Conca and Edwards to me but gave it to Titch because noone else has and he deserves a vote.

MATCH REPORT
by tigersnake

This year felt different in the lead up to the gabba game. I go every year, family and friends come from far and wide and we make a night of it. It lacked something. Finals gone after 3 hard-to-take losses, nothing unusual there, but in past years we’d celebrate any win however meaningless. This year I felt indifferent or ambivalent. Expectations have stepped up. Getting to the ground and the mood was pronounced. The tiger supporters barracking lacked something, seemed a bit forced or put on. I can’t remember ever experiencing that. It was always enough, deep down, to be competitive, beat a middling side or see a young player show a bit of promise. Tiger barrackers don’t feel like that any more.

The crowd viewed the game within that context. The first Q reflected the tigers season. We were well on top, but forward line wasn’t working efficiently. Brisbane looked more likely to score when they were in their forward line, thankfully they weren't in there that much. Richmond were relying on a Jack speccy, which he willingly obliged, or a snaffled goal. The score board began to better reflect the play in the second Q when we kicked away to a 20 point lead at half time thanks to 2 goals from Edwards and a nice finish from Jackson.

It was about halfway through the second Q when I noticed a trend that continued throughout the game. Brisbane would kick a goal, and Cotchin would jog back onto the ground from the tigers bench a few metres in front of us. TC would be rotated off, Brisbane would score.

The tiges were well on top in the third quarter and skipped to 38 point lead at the last change thanks to 2 goals to Nahas and a strong mark and goal from Ivan the reliable. Interest in the game lifted in the last Q when Brisbane started superbly with 4 quick goals to get the margin back to 14 points. The Lions fans found voice, and us tigers thought, ‘nah, can’t happen after the last 3 weeks’. Thankfully, it didn’t. We lifted. The Brisbane yelp reminded of countless times we would do the same in games over the last 30 years. After a very hard fought 3 or 4 minutes in our forward line which included 4 or 5 great smothers from Brisbane, Nahas found some space and snapped a nice goal. Floodgates, tigers win by 48 points.

Better than a loss obviously, and I was smiling, but I didn’t really feel like heading to the pub like usual.

Best: Us, Deledio, Maric, Conca, Cotchin, Edwards, Tuck, Jack.

Them, Rich, Brown, Zorko, Harwood, Redden

Cheers to tigersnake for a nice, concise summary of the Brisbane match, highlighting the different feeling that surrounds the club after the recent heart wrenching losses that have stolen our finals chances in 2012. When Brisbane came at us in the final quarter and it looked like they may actually hit the front, I was ready to throw the towel in for footy in 2012. Fortunately, the boys responded and went on to secure a solid victory.

In the voting this week Deledio has continued his solid season. Although Chimp still holds a commanding lead, Lids has bobbed up in more matches as the season has worn on and featured heavily in the voting. It was great to see him back himself from outside 50 in the first quarter and slot the goal without feeling he had to try to do the selfless thing when there wasn't an obvious option. His bursts through the packs were instrumental in our dominance for large sections of the match. Big Ivan also polled strongly and continues to make a huge difference to our side. It is great to have a willing worker and ruckman who loves the physical side of the game, and essential characteristic of the best players in that position. He also runs tirelessly and his effort must lift the Tiger midfield as he battles around the ground. Conca had a solid match and continues to show good signs as a young midfielder. He is still pretty raw, but he also has the ability to make a lot of contests and he has little fear when going in for the ball.

This week sees the Tigers take on the Dogs in a match that should see Richmond as healthy favourites. It will be nice to go back to back for the first time in a while and I hope the boys are up for it and don't take anything for granted. We've seen where that gets us.

Carn' the Tiges!
