"2009 Official PRE Draft thread'

All about how you play him of a bench for mine, I only got him for diversification of match ups, if he is getting that amount of ball still (and his inside 50's are good) he must be doing something right.

Playing for Freo?

Only kidding, I see why it's a good pick up

Douglas, Richard Crows.

Good up and coming midfielder who can run with or find his own ball.

Good pick.

I've been sitting on him for a couple of rounds without needing him enough to take him.

Must say that he wasn't going to be my 1st pref for my next pick either.

If only he had the leg speed to see his opponent again after he shook his hand at the start of the game.

:cutelaugh
Someone had to take the plastic tough guy(always loved that from struggletown).
After his last suspension, he's lucky he still has a career in 2009 and was only saved by the mass exodus of Freo's other players.

I've been ghosting him for several rounds but there have been too many similar players left to make him much of a priority. He was getting close though.

I need to bring some more toughness and intimidation into my side, so come on down...

Dean Solomon, still averaging 16 possessions, 5 marks and almost 3 tackles a game..all 102kgs of him.

S'pose it would've been nicer for you to find a tough guy who can actually run.

Can't hit 'em if you can't catch 'em.

Yep. (... on Douglas)

Probably would've taken him after my next pick.
For me, my query is that he just doesn't seem to get enough of the ball.

Douglas was taken in the 2005 draft, so he's had 3 years in the system as a midfielder yet is only gathering ordinary flanker stats.

Good rotation mid. You need them.

That philosophy worked for Stafford didn't it? He didn't get anywhere near as much of the ball as Solomon and he could barely walk, but he certainly made opposition pay if they let their guard down and had them worrying about more than the ball. Every side needs a enforcer to let opposition know they won't accept any nonsense.

His inside 50's are excellent people, that is what the game is about these days, moving the ball on quickly and getting inside your 50. He was ranked equal 47th in the league for inside 50's as he is being used in a more attacking role these days, not so much as a forward but to get it down there. He also averages 11.5 kicks a game which is in the Top 100 of league players, so he's doing his bit for a bench player.

If you think I'll be putting Solomon on Davey you're madder than a cut snake. Need to have a bit more imagination peeps. ;D

I'll stand by his stats alone, compared to some other picks this deep. At least he is actually getting the ball. Guess the average of nearly 3 tackles a game was him tackling the goal posts then. ::) :hihi He's clearly not in his prime but will make a effective role player of the bench. Underrated player who's presence alone will make a lot of players taken around him worry about footsteps more than the ball.

Besides I had to take someone to counter the thuggery recruited by some coaches. :hihi

Hmmm no comment. Other than to say...nonsense! :p

As I've already said, it's amazing what 'duds' become required players when you have take a pick - even Dyer Dyer has found ways to justify droppables and delistables :hihi

Sorry mate, can't talk right now, still laughing about Leigh Harding. :hihi

:hihi Plenty of opportunities for sledging as the duds come out at the back end.
This is when the game really gets fun. :smiledevil

What were you saying about plastic tough guys...Mr "I won't participate despite being invited, but will sledge"? :scold

Right response, wrong emotion - don;t you mean crying ???

K H TD E% M T 1%
L. Harding 197 137 334 79% 100 50 43

D.Solomon 149 71 220 66% 68 36 30

Not sure why you didn;t stick your original plans of an Interchange of:

Dawson, Fiora, Oakley-Nichols and Bambi. Oh that's right, Bambi is not a footballer, so why'd you take Solomon again? :rofl

Ok, I can finally complete my back six with Matthew Whelan from the Dees.

Go, Dees!

Looking back over the journey, I managed to get only one of my original back six. Such is life!

As we approach the time when our teams are selected and the games begin (check with U2 on how this will operate), I was thinking it might be useful if we a resident commentator for the games - someone with a lot of obvious knowledge - so I sorry DD - but was thinking ToO might be a good person for this.

He certainly has a point of view on everything, is a prolific poster and could make for some interesting build ups to our games?

Any thoughts?

Hey, leave Bambi McMahon alone. I'll have you know I picked up Travis Johnstone as well, just to make him look tough.
