Yeah, whoo Kurtzy, good pick, former Norm Smith medallist who ranked 8th in kicks per game in the AFL last year

I told you you get good ones when i pick them for you. >:D

P.S: The kick stat means nothing IMHO, but he doesn't need it. He's a great player.

Tigerbob selects;

Brent Stanton - Essendon Football Club

Sound like a broken record but astounded he was still here, easily one of the brightest young midfielders in the game, and Essendon's hopes rely on him to be their engine. Runs all day and I remember a few times he dominating us out of the center square. Too good to pass up here now.

Seem him on plenty of lists and he was on mine. Funny how different players are perceived, I can't get into him but he is elite level at some aspects of the game. Certainly one of the best midfielders running around available now in the draft.

The one funny thing about all of us saying "astounded he is still here" and we all do it... :hihi...is that WE passed on them each time too. So maybe not so funny? :help :hihi

I thought you would take him. Great bargain.

Yes me being a tad funny when I say that but he is way down on where I would of had him.

I think getting structure is important, therefor some players will be left around. Gotta be lucky enough to nab them when you get the chance.

For instance, he has been on my list for a while, but I took Motlop for another goalkicker, and Maguire as my CHB for structure.

The last round had heaps on HBF taken so I wasn't gonna miss out on one of the better ones before it's too late, so took Milburn. This pick came up and it was always Stanton.

Knew you would see it that way, I was doing the same thing in essence. Guess we all were for him to fall. I was very confident you weren't going to let him fall past your two picks before mine. It was mainly between him and Aker for me, was a few players, which why took me so long on that pick. But stanton was the hot 2nd, aker got nearly as much ball but finished far better with goals streaming into inside 50 so that did it for me.

I was suprised he lasted this long :hihi, I was resigned to loosing him from the moment i chose adcock two picks back, I was sure someone more in need of a midfielder would have taken him before now. Hence my, funny how different players get viewed comment.

I don't know what it is about him, I acknowledge he is a elite level runner now in the AFL, and is a good attacking midfielder. Yet i just can't get into him in real life, and despite being tempted strongly by him in this comp, still couldn't get into him.

Stanton - never even got onto my list - I know that's bizarre, but I think clubs found him out a bit 2008. Kept looking at him, he's top 100, but..... He's not real good with heavy work, and if this is laid on him early, it takes him til the last quarter to get some respectable stats. Now I may be basing that on too few games, and yes, on his day, left alone, is a great assist player. Just couldn't elevate him above wanting to select a few others I suppose. He's the sort of player I would like to see how Supercoach rates him next season with the work other clubs have done on him.

Agree.

As well as making a list of players I wanted, I also made a list of ones I was hoping would go early to someone else and he was front and centre. I was hoping Stanton would have been picked up much earlier than he was. Currently, he is the only AFL player to have been towelled up by Dean Polo, in his first game no less.

My backline is looking first class ....

B- Tom Harley Dustin Fletcher Campbell Brown

HB- Andrew McLeod Sam Fisher Nick Maxwell

With Brent Staker currently at CHF until I draft one. Now I need to draft some mids.

You guys are all picking the eyes out of my final list. I was sure everyone was overlooking Embley, he really should have gone before now.

Well most of it is Tannerz. ;D

Captain of Collingwood am I correct? I actually can't remember but im sure he was consitered.

Maxwell will go great as a 2nd or even 3rd CHB behind Fisher, Harley and even Staker.

Mitchell Clarke from BrisVegas.

Big fan of him, going to be a great player.

I was a big fan. He burst on the scene, a bit like Schulz Clarke at least had multiple bags ;D), then had a season or two of injuries that seemed to hamper his development. Season 2008 for Clarke was solid if not uneventful - which for him was probably pleasing. They certainly persisted with him when he could have easily been dropped.

Is he the player his early form promised? It's a little hard to tell at the moment. A guy his size and shape would be a real asset though in tip top form.

Maxwell is no superstar and is your classic "low profile" captain (we should know about them by now), but he gets less respect on here than what he is due. I've been suprised at how much crap he got on here when the captaincy for collingwood came up.

I always thought he was a pretty dour defender, one of many great 2nd or 3rd tall type defenders in the league. His opponents have found it hard to score on him when he hasn't had the superstar 1st stopping role.

He was ranked number 3 in spoils and 1 in tackles at collingwood in 2007, no mean feat in a malthouse lead side.

Underrated i say.

Pretty good summary mate, agree. I have faith he will. Unless injuries rob him.

Sheesh where's the fun in that?
He's the captain of Collingwood so Tannerz is certain to lose votes on that basis..:stir
