"2009 Official PRE Draft thread'

Looks like we all thought that.

It's interesting, last draft I got a bit of flack for picking him, he was coming off a series of injuries but did finish the previous season well. Liked his 2008 and the best is still to come.

Looks like the 2 hrs is up again.

Lucky for me we live in a perfect fantasy world where all knees are created equal, and stay that way.

Warren Tredrea (with two good knees) from PA.

Sweet now does anyone have Tiger29's Priority list?

I need to leave for a haircut in 25 minutes, would like my pick before if not i'll PM someone!

Always liked Tredrea, been a very sad decline for him.

I do - Is tiger29 up now.

OK Tiger29 takes

Joel Bowden.

Bobby takes Darren Milburn.

HATED seeing that on his list, him and Hahn are two of the most underrated players in the league I hoped would drop to the bottom half of the draft. As TOT said, looks like we all hoped the same and was a case of who got to first lol.

Great pick.

Thanks DD back from the hairdresser.

Yes Darren Milburn, very happy to get him, reliable half back flank, a general down back, clean and courageous.

This is an interesting criteria for me in the game.

Players hampered by injury being remembered at their best?

Yeah don't quite get it but still, it's fun.

I think we should keep these teams and as the season progresses see how our players are doing and I am sure some teams on paper will improve dramatically, some will decline.

Fun exercise.

It’s not really fair to assume that a 30 y.o power forward will recover from wear and tear injuries because they never do, by the same argument Micky O should have gone round ago.

I would only discount injuries that a player may realistically recover from, like Franklin’s shoulder surgery, Treadrea will never recover from his knees problems most likely.

Not sure I want to comment on this. :hihi Intelligent question though.

It's a bit of a tough one in my book.

It's really a case of saying they are injury free to play, rather than in their prime/at their best. I think you would find the selections would have been very different if it was players in their prime/at their best.

Tredrea has been playing...it's just the attrition of the years that have added up on him like most players, especially ones like him who have had bad injuries in the past. Tredrea is getting on in age and hasn't aged well thanks to his injuries.

To me, there is a big difference between a Tredrea who is "injury free" as he will get when he played last season and say Egan who can't even get out on the ball park.

I interpret it as they are injury free, in as much as to get them out on the park in the best possible state they could be in today. They certainly don't get the clock turned back on them.

Choosing any aged/troubled/chronically injured player is risky, your going to be at the mercy of the judges. I took the same risk with Cousins.

It could pay off big time, it could be a waste of a pick.

Buyer beware.

Hey, I'll take him on one leg anyway. The alternative was Anthony Rocca.

It does pose an interesting quesion, though. Matthew Egan is less likely to recover and play again than Tredders is.

Thats how I think it should be interpreted as well.

Got no problem with this.

I took Tredrea to sit in the square, not to run marathons.

Interesting one. There's still grey areas there but I see what you are saying a current 23 year old is likely more able than a 31 year old?
