"2009 Official PRE Draft thread'

Bah, first he was 6th. Once challenged, now you say 11th. Next post will you say 18th? If I kept persevering with your stubbornness you eventually concede...yeah I know, he sucks if he doesn't have Cousins, Judd & Kerr hand feeding him.

He kicked 23 goals for as many games! Oh he played some time in the ruck did he?, nowhere near enough to justify his season, and he sucked at that too, he couldn't get more than 9 taps and he didn't even beat his career best of 11 ( :hihi) despite all this time in the ruck you refer to!

I'm with you on Lynch.

Could the four people who still haven't posted their team lists in the POST TEAM LISTS HERE thread, please do so.

Be much appreciated.

Good to see draft is still going well.

Nice effort - somehard descisions being had.

Hey DD - whats wrong with Pharaces dress and the pick H. taylor.

It's going well when Phargone isn't holding everyone up and making the dedicated people late to work. Everyone is really putting in well, except him. I think you should not encourage his dressmaking interest when he gushes to you, it is distracting from his concentration here. Don't get me wrong, I used to be a good fan of Pharace as everyone on PRE will attest. He's just lost the plot these days ever since he climbed into his first dress. I've been trying to keep silent, but I do really like him all jokes aside, maybe we can do a intervention?

Absolutely nothing....SIR! *snaps to attention and salutes*

Good to have you back Sir. :)

How's the moving going?

Im off very soon because I have cricket training, anyone who is going to be online for a fair bit of time between now and 7.30ish? Just to make it easier if TD takes his pick while im going mine while be out of the way aswell.

You've got an uncanny knack for coming on at the right times Tigerdog, I'm going to start calling you Lucky Dog!

Hehe. I had to try work for a change today.
Damn I had to read 3 pages and scrub a lot of players though. Pick to follow shortly.

Checkers selects..

Josh Fraser-Colling...sorry checkers I can't bring myself to write it, everyone knows where he is from though.

OK, let's move this along.

When I started thinking about what strategy I would use in this game, it was obvious to me that the nervous nellies would panic and cause a world-wide shortage of ruckmen at some point.

I wanted to resist the urge to reach for a bash-and-crash hack in the early rounds.

I considered just taking Cox with my first pick and getting it out of the way early but that would mean turning my back on some real superstars. I identified six other ruckmen that I was happy to consider as alternatives and thought they would all go around rounds 5-7.

One left, Troy Simmonds from Richmond. I'd better take him.

Well Cox is a real superstar :p

Otherwise agree with you, we did the same thing, though i had my eyes on Jolly. I knew people would let him fall despite being the most consistent ruck behind Cox for the last few years. No superstar but plays the role perfectly for a gun midfield.

Simmonds good choice, he was the best after Jolly methinks. (as in the order they have gone in this draft)

Would of taken him long before a lot of other ruckman.

Good choice this late mate.

Last year he was still good enough to be considered an All Star ruckman. His decline may come soon, but he keeps himself super fit, and like every player selected, injuries are the only thing that can cause him harm.

I nearly took Jolley with my previous pick but felt that Dale Morris wasn't going to last whereas Jolley might've. Several ruckmen have already been taken who I wouldn't even consider for at least another 100 picks. That's just individual difference, I guess.

I'm with you. Totally agree.

I knew Jolyl wouldn't last past my pick, at the very least I expected Phantom to take him, so it was then or never.

My top 5 were, in order, Gary Jnr, Judd, Buddy, Goodes and Cox.

Having fifth pick I had to choose between Judd or the rucking strategy. I just couldn't justify Cox ahead of Judd.

I knew I was going to have trouble though.

Btw, if I had picked up Cox in the first round, then I would've taken another ruckman, probably Sandilands or Ottens, with my second pick, just to annoy everyone.
