Re: Ben Cousins - exclusive story on 9

bloke in charge of the rehab clinic said cousins had never booked in for another period at the clinic. said cousins should be proud of himself as he is doing well.

just makes you wonder perhaps they should call it the pander to the spoilt rich kids clinic.

i will say it again while cousins has money while the people around him refuse to admit he has a problem until he hits rock bottom and admits he has a problem he will continue to have big problems. i wonder what the odds are of him getting it very wrong and over dosing are.

Re: Ben Cousins - exclusive story on 9

I am horrified at this story. I am disgusted that this woman took Ben into her home and had drugs freely available for him - she would have known that he was an addict and yet allowed this to progress to the point of calling an ambulance for him.

It's time that Ben got himself locked up in a drug hospital and got himself completely clean - he needs to do that for himself and his family.

I believed the stories that he was clean and on the road to recovery - I believed that he was getting himself right - and I believed it when the clinic in LA come out and said that he was recovering well and had excellent prospects. I feel betrayed as I believed those lies.

I feel so sorry for his family in this - they are the real victims here.

I hope the investigation into the Eagles finds them culpable. They knew he had a problem and I dont care how much they protest their innocence, they allowed this to go on - and from all reports - they knew about Ben and the drugs since 2002. Shame on West Coast and shame on Ben Cosuins - you have ruined lives and ruined the trust people had in you both.

What good can come out of this - well I really hope that Ben gets himself clean once and for all and stays clean. He owes to himself and his family.

I may have been pro Ben Cousins to the Tigers in 2008 but I can now say that I do not want him at my club as I will never trust him again. :bash

At this point in time, probably quite high.

couldn`t agree more.
the first step is admitting you are a drug addict.
but cousins has so many people defending him and making excuses for him that it`s probably hard for him to admit it.

like tigerlee blaming the woman.
it`s not the woman`s fault, cousins is a 29 year old man who can make decisions for himself.
he has organised to go to her house and get on drugs, not anyone else.
everyone blames the eagles, the afl,the police or the media for picking on him,no wonder he doesn`t think he`s got a problem, everyone keeps telling him it`s not his fault.

the sooner everyone stops pandering to him and defending him the better.
he needs to take responsibility for his own actions.

Re: Ben Cousins - exclusive story on 9

Idiot.

29 year old man whos' well off.

*smile* off Ben out of the news, never hear of him again.

Lets be more concerned with the kids who through many reasons have addiction problems - abuse, failed families, neglecting parents.  Lets concern ourselves in helping them.

Lets actually help the kids its not to late to help, the ones who actually want help.

I personally feel for his parents but lets sever ties with Ben in everything AFL, and let his family and closest friends try to help him with his money.

As long as  thats not Chick, kerr, Gardiner or Fletcher....etc.

Re: Ben Cousins - exclusive story on 9

As Wayne Carey's wife said, all the people around these guys are just as much to blame (especially the Manager's) cos they just never learn to hear NO!

Domestic blindness - Hero deafness! You have to shout a bit louder! Powder? what powder?

I was not just blaming the woman mopsy fraser - I know this is Ben's own fault - what I was saying was that I was disappointed with that woman for allowing hard drugs in her house - especially around a well known drug addict. That did not help what happened. It is not her fault that he took them - no one forced him Im sure but to tempt him more was not a wise move.

You are totally right - unless Ben admits to his problem, and that does not look likely, then he will never get clean. He must want to get better and he does not seem to want that at all right now.

I do place some blame elsewhere mopsy fraser as others must have known about this problem and they supported it by not doing anything to stop it. They need to take that critisism - I was merely pointing out that others may have been able to stop this day happening if they had of got off their backsides and stopped Ben being able to keep playing footy and taking drugs at the same time. This is not a 2007 issue - this has been around since 2002 and he has played footy every year since then - without the Eagles doing a darned thing - they didnt want to as that would weaken their side - a premiership at all costs

All employers have a duty of care to their employees and if I was a drug addict and my boss knew about it I dont think I would have my job for long - or if I did it would be once I had been in a proper rehab program and fully and medically cleared. I didnt see any help offered until it was too late and the news leaked - they had no choice but his addiction was too ingrained in him. He cant beat this in a week or even a month.

I dont care what I am labelled here for my thoughts and yes I do blame (and pity) Ben for this but I also blame the Eagles for allowing it to continue until they couldnt hide it any longer. That is not being a responsible employer and they need to take some of this fall-out - had they done something a long time ago you and I would not be discussing this today. I dont think they would have broadcast the problem if Ben had not been caught first - they would have continued to hide it if they could - and did for many years. Proves what support they offer - none until caught then they try to make it look like they are the victims - get real. They were negligent.

Ben now needs to grow up and own up to his problem and get help and stop tormenting himself and his family. He is an addict and can only be helped once he admits this. To date he has not so not much that anyone can do. He is the classic addict - lies and deception.

Shame!

He's in drug rehabilitation. Seems to me that's enough proof without needing to drug test the player. Cousins, tragically, is the guilty party. He should step out of footy even for a year for his own benefit. The rigours of AFL footy is enough distraction for a player with a serious drug habit. As a drug addict once mentioned, you don't just magically stop the urge to use drugs after a 3 week stint at drug rehabilitation. It can be a long battle for many many years. Cousins is best to resist the urge to play AFL and the lifestyle that can come with it.

Well, who still wants Cousins at Richmond next year? It's quite amazing the number of people here saying that Cousins should come and play for Richmond, and how it's everyone else's fault he is on drugs, and Richmond can look after him and get him right. Sounds like we are being a bit greedy to me. Get one of the best AFL players for the benefit of Richmond. How about we yhink about Cousins and his own issues as the priority. As I said he needs time to beat his addiction, and playing AFL footy won't help. He needs time away from footy.

Pretty sure he would like it all kept out of the news U2.

I agree, lets dump all the drug addicts with previous success in their life and just focus on the ones who had previous misery ::)

They showed the 911 transcripts of the woman talking to the operator, saying Cousins had been on drugs for 5 days, wasn't violent but was scared. They then confirmed that the hospital had admitted Cousins to their care. He was admitted at the same time his father gave the press conference saying Ben hadn't disappeared and that he was in "appropriate" care. The hospital has no drug rehabilitation unit 9 claimed. He then went to the drug rehab clinic after this, for 2 days as Evo stated.

Where is the Supreme Court injunction to prevent publication of Cousins' medical records?

As i expressed earlier in this thread. He wasn't over there for re-hab he was there to help the crips 'way down in Compton.'

Jobs done.

I expect he will feature in the next issue of Sony's grand theft auto(Compton edition)
So Benny ended up bangin' in Hermosa Beach rather than Compton.

Not a bad guess, only 2 suburbs off. 8)

What medical records?

Nine apparently showed a transcript of the 911 call - OK, maybe not 'medical records' as such, but I would've though such things would be confidential. I'm interstate and haven't seen the news report, so apologies if I've got this wrong.

For alot of people & especially around his age this happens to be a everyday thing. She wanted to party & so did he.I dont think she was to concerned about to many other things until he started acting a bit funny.

I think until recently football has saved him from becoming & addict (i fail to see how an addict could play football at the highest level, let alone the way he did) but now the signs are not good.Soon footy will no longer be an option & something has to give.At least now some of us who wanted him in the psd can move on & be realistic.

Unfortuntely Goody I think it was a sign of how desperate people were to see success at the RFC, unfortunately most did not look at it objectively.

Funny how many who continually screamed about the club looking for the quick fix fell into the same trap with Ben.

People just didn't want to see how far Ben has fallen, he is obviously in need of some serious treatment and is obviously going to face a long uphill battle to get himself right.

Didn't know that, thanks Elmer. Jumping at shadows I guess. Apparently the AFL are going to request Chad Fletcher's toxicology tests from his near-death experience as part of the WC probe, and the anarchist in me wants to see the AFL come unstuck after biting off more than it can chew.

I think alot of it had to do with us picking up a player that was a genuine star,& for absolutely nothing in the psd.But when it all comes down to it he simply ran out of chances when the Eagles sacked him, & to honest if the afl ever caught him it should have been a long time ago.
