Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

Yeah I would take a punt with a pick 90. Would not use PSD pick 1 on him.

Have to wait and what draft he would go into. He is super fit and has missed a entire season, then again he did rip a hammy off the bone and his game is based only on running.

Hmm on second thought no becuase of his body and age not his habits.

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

You would use PSD pick 1 on him because that's the draft he'll be in, if any, and as has been widely discussed on various forums here the PSD pickings are slim at best.

I just thought of another reason to draft Cousins. If we do pick him up in the PSD, at least that means we haven't drafted Guy Richards or Barry Brookes.

he`s had his second chance,and 3rd and 4th and 5th....

as an earlier poster said the eagles sacked him for repeated breaches of his ZERO tolerance contract that he agreed to and signed off on.
as for him sueing the WA police well what a joke that is.
that just goes to show what kind of person he is.
self centred and unable to take responsibility for his behaviour and blaming everyone else.
he got off on a technicality, having valium in liquid injectable form was prohibited but he had it in tablet form.
his lawyer asked for and recieved $50 in compo at court because that`s all it`s worth.

he could have been sacked for any one of the following, remember he was on a zero tolerance contract.
1.having unprescribed valium on him, this drug is a popular drug for amphetamine users for the coming down effect.
2.having unprescribed oxycontin on him, this is an opiate based drug favoured by heroin junkies.

Oxycodone is becoming an increasingly publicized and known drug to the general public. The discovery of its recreational benefits has led to an illicit underground market. Due to acts such as pharmacy diversion and "doctor shopping", the drug is widely available to those without a prescription.in Australia OxyContin is covered by the PBS, and a patient can potentially get up to sixty tablets for as little as $4.90AUD in total. The NSW Rural Doctors Network notes "Some patients who are legitimately prescribed strong opioids, by a pain clinic or for a terminal condition, will sell part, or all, of their prescription on the illicit drug market to augment their income" and "‘Doctor–shopping’ data for 1999/2000 for Australia show that a total volume of 262 923 codeine compound analgesics and narcotic prescriptions were written for 8780 known abusers. These patients saw more than 15 separate doctors in 1 year. The oxycodone contained in OxyContin produces typical opioid effects, and is considered a "reasonable substitute" for heroin, so much so that OxyContin is often referred to as "hillbilly heroin
3.refusing a drug test.
only a week or so before when it came out that he was one of the last people to see chris mainwaring alive(who died of drugs),cousins immediately had a drug test and was shown to be clean.
why then wouldn`t he take a test this time?
surely he would jump at the chance to again prove that he was clean.

anyone one of these things is more than enough to break his contract.
he obviously doesn`t give a stuff about the eagles,a club that he`s been with all his career and has given him fame, money, premiership, brownlow and lifelong friendships.

why would he give a sh!t about bloody richmond!
he can stay right away from my club thank you very much.

The OxyContin was not found on Ben, but rather in the vehicle. The police also mentioned a twenty dollar note with traces of illegal drugs were found in the vehicle (only mentioned it was in the possession of another passenger when queried by the media. It does seam a little sus the major crimes unit happended to pull him over for what is a traffic problem - I wouldn't have thought they would not have pulled to many people over for similar traffic problems but i could be wrong.

A lot has been made of how WCE acted swiftly and should not be penalised, yet nothing has been said as to exactly what they did to ASSIST Ben scince the end of the football season - other than convincing Ben that he should stay with the club after he requested a move to get away from the Perth scene (a very logical thing to do). Ben suffers a substance abuse problem (admitted by his father on behalf of the family earlier in the year) and was scheduled to go back into re-hab when a close friend dies only hours after seeing him. If ever an addict was going to slip it was it would be in these circumstances.

As for should RFC draft Cuz, there are pros and cons - he would add the class and size into the midfield and could teach the youngsters the work ethic required to be a great AFL player whereas the cons are more obvious - i would have thought being so far from the top, then he is not going to put us over the edge and as such the risk is probably to great. I do however think we should be given the opportunity - based on his efforts during the first stint in rehab and the fact he has kept up his training it is plainly clear that footy is a big part of his life and i would argue that by denying him the oppurtunity to play it is more likely he will spiral further into the abys - if the AFL is serious it wants to assist and support his rehab it should allow him to re-register (even if this is after a year away from football).

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

Talk about a confusing article. The headlines scream "No home for Cousins at Tigerland". The actual story though says that although Miller did not unequivocally rule out selecting Cousins in any forthcoming draft, although he showed little interest in selecting the premiership midfielder. Good move Miller, why would he show his hand early and let scumbaggers off the hook so they can make their selection. The article is a little wishy washy and really does not say that we will not take him, unlike the heading suggests - just says we will take the best available at the time. :)

Is it fair to assume that if the Tiges offered Cousins a contract, then the club is by default accepting of (champion) players committing such crimes and misdemeanours providing they don’t commit them while wearing the Tiger gurnsey?
And if that’s the case where do the Tiges draw their moral line?

For me, I’d say YES to any Brownlow champion junky, booze hound, party animal or mad transvestite but draw the line on suspected serial killers, rabies carriers and conservatives...... unless they’re a KPP of course.

Brilliant post (as usual) glanton. Makes reading this thread worthwhile. :)

Why thank you Ms Rosy - I'm all a flutter!

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

VOTE YES FOR BEN!!!

guys, if you think about it rationally, this is a no brainer.

1. if we take him in the PSD, we get him for nothing. if he plays up again we'll sack him and lose nothing, but if he stars, there is a huge upside.
2. if you get him away from perth and away from his circle of dodgy friends it is less likely he'll re-offend.
3. our kids could learn so much off him if it comes off. cuz invented the term "gut running." how much i would love it if some of our kids ran as hard as he did

and i guarantee if you asked the players whether or not they would want Cousins playing with them in 2008 id say 99% of them would say yes.

Didn't the players give the thumbs down to Zantuck?

Oh god....i need to be alone

.... from a female perspective he is pretty hot - hate his addiction but love his looks and his toughness at the footy! Sorry tha8ball - I dont mean to be rude but he has the talent our side needs to get back up that ladder and I want that more than anything. Unlike most, I do not see the dangers like some do and cannot see Ben bringing the team into disrepute - he is on his deathbed in footy and he wont stuff that up I wouldnt think.

The other players will not be induced into drugs if that is what your worried about. Also, if we dont take him we can sit back next year and peer up at the team that does as they will surely be a lot further up that ladder than us! :p

I'm still on the fence as to whether we should get him or not

But he does look good in Y&B

I'd be surprised if many are using methamphetamines(ICE).

My view is that there would be quite a few clubs with skeletons in their change rooms and I think you would be surprised how many may be using methamphetamines. Your quite right saying they just have not been caught with the emphasis on yet.
